Many. A quick search here (also in the Day trippin' thread and the Canada sub forum should yield you some results).

Good RR Lycan! I want to do this ride too. (My dad rode his mountain bike and hiked along a large portion of this in the 1990's.) One day soon, I hope!

Thanks for the ride report

I'll be up that way this year and picked up on a lot of good info and neat things to see.

Thanks
Mark

Thanks

Thanks guys for the kind words. I will be revisting some sections of the route this June after (and during) The "Big Trailie Ride 6" The section from Brookmere to Coalmont is on that ride (June 19th) . After that I plan to head back up to the Myra Canyon area of the KVR to take the Bypass that was pictured in one of the posts. I won't ride through the park but rather around the south end. You can see the trestles from up top without having to violate the park boundry. I wasn't aware of this route last year or I would have taken it then. I will be sure to add photos and maybe even a gps track this time. I am going to try some of the sections north of Hope as well this time around.

Nice pics

As a first time poster here but a long time rider with many trips on the old KVR, thanks for the pics, brings back good memories.
Have been wanting to go back and finish the only section that I have not done yet Christina lake to Castlegar. (good back haul run is the old Cascade HWY)
(did you see the original rail bed that went to the temporary tunnel above and to the west of the big bull dog tunnel??)
Worked in Grand Fork for two years and got to know the trails like the back of my hand, as well lived in Summerland and know that section to Brookemere well.

Just to chime in on the "who can ride this track BS" there has always been an issue about the tracks, the origanal charter was that all persons with rec purposes could use it. then the peddle bikers thought it was theirs as they lobbied the goverment for money and got it, then the horsey folk thought it was theirs BLA, BLA, so on and so fourth.
Just remember it is crown land and is open to everyone.

Thanks

Rob

KVR RR tracklog

Here is something that may be handy for all KVR riders.

A track log of the KVR Railroad.

I just bought some Delorme topo software and the KVR RR is shown plainly on there. I will use this when I come up there this year.

Keep in mind---I have not ridden it---I did not record this track----I just traced over the RR in my mapsource topo software with the track tools and created this track on my computer---should be accurate I'd say.

I was probing the Myra canyon area on google earth---and clearly saw parking lots full of cars at both ends to the non-motorized Myra Canyon---at these same parking lots I've ascertained that this is where the by-passes start and end. So cars are driving very close on both ends.

So here it is---use it with caution.

Brookmere

In the town of brookmere their use to be part of a train at the water tower.
The towns people have moved it to the back of town to do repairs in to prevent vandalism. it's not a big town, if you ride around you should be able to find it.
PS. This is the only water tower with two water stouts. This is the only time the two deferent trains share the same tower

Thanks guys.

I will be revisting a couple of sections this year after the Big Trailie ride, this time on the 990. I will have a GPS with me to record some of the tracks. Myra Canyon bypass and Princeton to Sumerland. Christina Lake to Castlegar to check out the reported washout repair (new bridge). I suspect I may have to remove the bags for the crossing there.

I walked the KVR

Outstanding RR Lycan.

I'm in the army and have been for quite some time now, anyway in the early 90's my unit (a group of about 120) did a forced march with all our gear (about 70/80lbs each) that's not including water, rations, bug juice etc.. The brass called it "adventure training" well after about 350 km and 9 days later it was anything but an "adventure'!! My feet were just hamburger my back and legs were in knots and I did not have much FUN at all... Well that was 20 years ago and I degress. I'm a KLR dude myself now (A20) that I bought new in 06. I try to get out as much as I can when I can. I now want to do this trail by myself (I don't ride alot with others).

Question 1: How did you fair on fuel and what did you use for communication? As I travel alone mostly I need to contact "9er long hair" regularly..humph!!

Question 2: Is there a wet season there? I don't want hit this trail at the wettest time of the year.

Thanks for sharing.
