Just imagine the Manual Labor put into these Bridges

My dad is retired from Norfolk Southern where He helped build & repair these bridges in AL, GA, MISS & TN.
I remember him coming home for the weekend with severe Cresote [spelling?] burns on his muscled arms & face.

It's a Crying shame that some of these gets burned down as DavidQ posted about the one in Gardendale
This beautiful history we are so lucky to have & view, CAN't be replaced.
forever.

Way to go DD. Keep it coming as mentioned

With the underbrush so thick (look close and you can see the rails) on the original rr bed, we decided to investigate another possible access point a few miles away.

As we're heading back to the bikes, Buzz says, "Hey man, we-got-company!"

Uh-oh.

I see a guy making his way towards us.

This could be a problem.

I notice the guy about 50 yards into the thick underbrush. He is heading towards us. He is mine security. We turned the bikes around and I told Buzz to follow me and not stop.

As we pass by the guy, I wave and we proceed back to the mine haul road. We pass several coal trucks. The drivers wave to us as we ride out to the main road and dissapear into the rural Alabama countryside.

We wanted to check out the southern terminus of the old spur.

Just a mile south, we find the last underpass.

It looks like it has seen traffic. We look around and can't find access.

This area is under heavy surveillance because it is adjacent to a coal fired steam plant.

This old spur was used to haul coal to the plant.

We decide to make our way north to see what other parts of the abandoned spur we can find.

I just saw this addition called "Day Trippin" and yours was the first I came to. Perfect. Loves me some DeBandi Exploring Alabama.

And trains are pretty cool, too.

origination point

The origination point of the spur is still being utilized.

It serves a factory about a 1/2 mile to the south.

You can see parked rail cars at the beginning of the spur.

About six rail cars are parked just behind me.

Awesome stuff! Amazing that these rotting old structures once supported so much weight.

Cool way to pick a ride destination, too.
