Sorry, I am a planner by nature. I want to map out a 125-150 mile ride around the Seneca Rocks area that will be used in a group ride. I have limited amounts of time to prepare, and I am several hundred miles away, so I hoped to profit from the experiences of others. I have lots of maps and software mapping programs and will use them to plot a route guided via waypoints in my GPS. What I really hope to avoid is riding near something that is worth seeing/riding (like an overlook, waterfall, or road up to the top of a mountain) because I am blindly following the lines on a map.
What's a GPS???

I can see your not from around here..

I don't have a GPS, but try peeling some info from Steverino.. he uses one to locate where his bike breaks down on occasion.

Head west on RT 33 out of Harrisonburg. Cross over the mountain into West Virginia, and as soon as you get off the hill turn right on Rublic Rd 151. There will be a (small) sign that mentions a firing range. Keep trying to head towards the NNW and eventually you'll hit RT 220.

Thanks for the suggestions posted so far. It gives me something to work on when trapped inside. There was one reference to Smoke Hole I didn't understand. Is that a road?

BTW, I don't think this thread has gone to shit. We are just getting a little filler material .

Steverino is right. You really can't go wrong on any road around there. Rt 33 from where it turns to two lane east of Elkins all the way to Harrisonburg is very nice. If you cut off it at Judy Gap and head south on Rt 28 to Rt 92 and Green Bank, is beautiful too.

If you want it to be a loop, start at Seneca, run south on 33 to Spruce Knob. Take a right and go up the mountain to the top. (11? miles of dirt/gravel), come off the backside thru Sinks of Gandy, Laurel Fork, then north on dirt to Wymer(about 20 miles of gravel). Left on 33 to Alpena. At Alpena, north thru Sully (it is 90% paved, not gravel like the map says). At Rt 72 you can go right or left, it is great in any direction. But go right, to Rt 32, then turn north. About a mile, then take the gravel road east thru Dolly Sods to Rt 28. North to Cabins, across the bridge, then south on I have no idea what, but small and twisty all the way to Rt220. Then 220 south to Franlkin, and then Rt 33 back to Seneca.

If you do that with a group in one day, you've kicked ass. Steverino, I know I hosed the directions from Cabins. Feel free to clarify if you want to.

Hope that helps Andy11.

Yeah and Chocolate Covered Kerry's was a better choice? Obvioulsy that is not the case.

Hey Jeff, I cannot mention the name of the road to which you refer that goes from 28 to 220 near Cabins........I am sworn to secrecy.
