[QUOTE=prometheus rising;16195156]Hannda - Capri pizza

Firenailer - so thats what AMericade looks like, even though I live 25 minutes away from Lake George I have never gone to Americade. That last pic almost looks like Lake George from the top of prospect mountain.

quint7 next time you go to Lake Placid jump off I-87 at exit 23 , this is my favorite route, great scenery and roads follow rte 9n and rte 73

The Americade thing is fun for a night or two, But it's just too crowded. That Rt 73 ride is one of my favorites as well. Really great!

Have a safe 4th everyone, heading up to Maine for a few days to see a friend.

Oh no said the tempted fly to ask me is in vain
for whover tastes your beverages are never the same again

Said the cunning spider to the fly, Dear friend what can I do
To prove the warm affection I’ve always held for you
I have within my parlor many things you’ll like
So come right in and feel the urge as you sit upon a bike

sweet creature said the spider you're witty and your wise

I've a little looking-glass upon my parlor shelf,
If you'll step in one moment, sir , you shall behold yourself."
I thank you, gentle sir," he said, "for what you’re pleased to say,
And bidding you good morning now, I'll call another day."

The Spider turned him round about, and went into his den,
For well he knew the silly Fly would soon come back again:
So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly,
And set his table ready, to dine upon the Fly.

And these words came to mind...
" I generally avoid temptation unless I can;t resist it" Mae West

And so ...........

Now, I did not buy this for it's ecomomy of scale or it's economy of operation

I bought it strictly for the pure visceral pleasure I get from riding it, no symphony has ever produced music that sounds so sweet to my ears as that Boxer when i wring the throttle and the tach needle clims above 4500

That being said, I am anal enough to figure my gas mileage to see how it compares to the 55-60 I was getting from the 800gs

I do it the old fashioned way as I feel it gives a better indication than the trip computer or gps

filling the tank to even with the bottom of the filler neck each time I set the trip computer and the next time I fill up I do the math by hand

results after 1700 miles, 5% slab and the remainder twisty mountain roads, lightly loaded panniers, tank bag and heavy hand on the throttle results in a worst of 39.22 to a best of 42.36

So I ask myself- is it worth the 30% drop in mileage, higher cost of bike and maintenence and insurance up by 70%?

Absolutely, the way I figure, it costs less than a Prius gets about the same gas mileage and obviously is a hell of a lot more fun

The trip was great. A little to quick, but saw friends in Wells and Augusta. Got to stay in Freeport for a night and did the LL Bean thing too. It's a beautiful State and up north it gets pretty natural. I'd like to go back and enjoy more of the scenery without rushing. I should be back in the 'Dacks next week for a daytrip to Saratoga. (Maybe stay the night for a dinner at The Log Jam !)

Signal - yes it's new just turned 2,000 miles yesterday

Firenailer- coming for the race track? avoid exit 14 at all costs, NYS in it;s infinite wisdom decided to replace the bridge over the northway a week before track season started. Major cluster f*ck there now especially on track days jump off 13 and take rte 9 , just before you come into saratoga on 9 you will come to a light, Saratoga Honda will be on your right. Go right and then left at your first stop sign

log jam steak au poive and salad bar - outstanding

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the heads up on exit 14. It's a heck of a time to replace the bridge, but they do things I'll never understand. I'm looking forward to getting back up there. I'd like to take a day and poke around the Saranac Lake area, but that might have to wait until next time. The Jam really does have a great salad bar doesn't it?

Why'd you change up to the 1200 from the 800? Happy? Regrets? Different but equal or are you liking one more than the other?

Hey Bob, did you get up to Saratoga? I went to the track mysef yesterday, Siros for cocktails and then Forno for dinner, Saranac lake or vermint is on my radar for Sunday

ironslede68, thanks for stopping by, deffo get to the Adirondacks at some point, you won;t regret it

Hannda - While I absolutely adored the 800 .........

I ride mainly road with a smidgen of gravel thrown in, so the GSA is a better choice m after about 2,500 miles on a couple of loaners I was like an aging Lothario who dumped his faitful wife of yeasr for a 20 year old coed and I don;t regret it a bitm this bike speaks to me like no other I have ever seen, ridden or owned. Actually sometimes I find it very disturbing that I have such amorous feelings for a piece of machinery

BTW , I did get to Dirty Johns, need to dig out the pics for you.

Interestnly enough while passing through Warrensburg last week I spied rennovation being done on an old building with signage proclaiming "new way lunch of Warrensburg coming soon"
