Ha ha of course you would ask that when I'm at work and don't have it right in front of me It is an Olympus Stylus and I remember it has an '8' in the model number. I think it's 8 megapixel, it's waterproof to ten feet, freezeproof to 14F and shock proof to 5(?) ft. Now if I can just keep it zippered up...

That's actually a really good idea. I hate having to get off and dig it out of the tailpack every time I want to take a pic. OF COURSE you'll get pics! Proly a lot more than you'll want

Love the pic of you kick starting your bike wearing flip flops! Girls must have a higher tolerance for pain.

Eek Old Dudes Worry

...nice stuff. You seem like a capable young gal.
But you worry me. When you got out there in the woods, do you bring the kit to change a tire /chain/ etc? Med kit? GPS?

I'm just askin'...I have a daughter your age.
Ride safe kiddo.

Kind of surprised no one else has said anything here.................if you have a hole in your sidewall, you need a new tire. Especially since you DS; your carhartt's wont last long on the pavement.

Whatever - - be careful. It's exciting reading about someone who is new, and diving in head-first, all gung-ho - - - - I would just hate to see it followed up with a sad story of "What I should have done differently".

Keep having fun, but please be careful - - this shit can hurt - like, for a long long time

Man - What a lame-ass old guy I've turned into

Rapid Dog and Mike D- I do take tools with me and I know how to change a tire...although in all honesty it would probably take me a couple hours to do it by myself. When I know I'm going to ride a lot of pavement I wear my padded Cordura riding pants. Right now I don't have GPS; my next purchase will be a SPOT. On these lil day rides my boyfriend always knows what road I'm heading out on. I know it's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. Lastly, I was wrong about metal in the side wall of my tire. I don't know what I thought I saw when I looked down but when Carl and I changed it we both inspected it closely and didn't find anything in the sidewall; there was, however, a big ol' roofing nail smack in the middle of the tread.

I know this can be a dangerous sport but I think I take it pretty seriously. I'm my kid's only parent and I'm very aware of that...

But thanks for the concern! I appreciate it a lot

Right here

So I had to work til midnight on Thursday, which finished out a 70 hour workweek. That's my way of saying I wasn't moving too fast on Friday morning We got our bikes packed up (Josh rented a Honda 230 from a friend) and took off about 1300.

Fueling up in Poncha Springs

We went up Poncha Creek Rd to Marshall Pass

At the top...

Heading to 114 on the Doyleville cutoff...

Stopped to put on raingear; we're fixin' to get wet!

Los Pinos Pass

Not too long after this pic was taken I slowed down for a deer in the road and I could also see a truck parked on the edge of the road ahead and a guy on the opposite edge with a camera with a lens as long as my arm. I slowed down looking for more deer and looked over to see what he was shooting...I didn't see anything so I figured it was more deer. When we finally stopped in Lake City Josh asked me if I saw the moose... What?!? Yep, that's what the guy was shooting. A big bull and a cow...

We finally got to the campground as it was getting dark, just in time for the first prize drawing. We had a great couple of hours by the fire and looking at maps in the pavilion with other inmates. Our first rally is off to a great start

Saturday 07.31.2010

After a rainy night we wake up to cooler temps and scattered clouds...

After a yummy breakfast of breakfast burritos and chatting by the fire (and delicious hazelnut coffee that a friendly inmate shared...sorry I didn't get your name!) we take off for Lake City again...

Stop at Mean Jean's for some froufrou coffee and snacks and to warm up; it's definitely a lot colder than Friday...

So much colder, in fact, that we went back out to the edge of town so I could get a fleece neck gaiter and some wool/dacron glove liners. It's looking rainy again and we're headed to Engineer Pass, which is over 13,000 ft. We start up Engineer Pass Rd...

So after this pic, by brand new camera tells me I'm already out of battery. I know it was fully charged when we started; I'm guessing that it got turned on when it was in my pocket or tailpack. We're only a couple of miles out of Lake City so we decide to go back for a disposable. The best views are ahead and I figure the disposable will be better than nothing. However, when I took it to Wal-Mart on Monday to get it developed they said it will take six days So I'll have to come back and update with pics later...
