Me, Pat Malone & The Border Ranges

G'day All, just another quicky day ride. As the title say's, i have no friends and a day free and wanted to go for a ride. So,s about 8.00 this morning i decided to throw some gear on, give the wife a kiss and tell her i'll be back in a few hours, jumped on bike and off i went. Had no idea were to, which was an issue with the wife to start with, but promised i would send a message as to my were abouts when i decided in the direction i was heading. I had also fitted a new fuel pump to the pumkin and had not ridden it since, so it was a good time to make sure all is in order. I went and filled the tank and headed out to Beaudesert to start with. I pulled up at the driver reviver out at Beauy and got a chocolate milk from the servo, a chat with some nice people that were also out for a day riding, still not sure were i wanted to go. Bike was running fine so i was confident i could go some distance without issue. Then Border Ranges , haven't been there for a while, then that is were i am heading. Mount the trusty steed and off we go. Now as far as rides go, this is none to exciting or hard, but even the tar riding part getting to the border ranges is enjoyable. It is very nice riding for any of the locals that have not been. Today was fairly overcast for most of the day, but not one drop of rain.

This is the spiral loop lookout off Lyon's rd . Well worth stopping and having a look.

They have these boards there with the history behind the area and the train track which is interesting reading.

This is a memorial plaque at the spiral loop lookout.

The train track snakes in and out beside the road.

Then the bridge crosses over the top of the road. It looks like it has been there a long time and it has.

There is a track/dirt road off to the side and under the bridge, so you dont have to follow the tar. Its a nice little ride with a few causeways, but there are some farm houses and it is two way.

This is a small creeks under the bridge.

The causeways had water flowing across them and were a little greasy.

This is the start of the dirt roads that lead into the border rangers. It wanders past some properties and into the park.

The good thing about riding by yourself is there is plenty of time to stop and take in the scenery.

The roads are great condition at the moment with hardly a pothole anywhere.

As soon as you start getting into the rainforest, the temperature seemed to drop by a few degrees.

I think there is only 40 more Klm's of this to go. Dont how how i coped.

This is the Blackbutt lookout. Great views from here. Might need to talk the wife into coming along next time.

Back on the road for some more of this.

Came across this tree with a hollow trunk. It had been burnt out and was quiet impressive. Big enough to camp in.

I stopped taking pic's after this until i got back to the tar. It felt like i was stopping every 10 minutes or so with plenty to look at.

Back on tar and heading for Uki & Murwullimbah. Again there is some enjoyable roads around this area.

Back in Murwillumbah and heqading for home, i came across this old steam engine outside a small museum.

The plaque from the restoration.

A run through the cane fields and head for home.

And thats about it. Pretty uneventful really. Oh, the fuel pump worked flawlessly.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO - what a ride!"
