Any way to install a Scotts without a new top triple clamp?
On a 990 Adventure (2010).
I searched and searched and could not find anything except a hopefully true blurb from an Australian outfit (Shock Treatment); S.U.B Mounts kits we keep in stock KTM 00-10 - available with either a 2.5cm or a 3.75cm riser which bolts directly on to your OEM KTM Triple Clamp while utilizing the stock bar mounts. The KTM Kit comes with the Riser, Custom Bolt on Tower, Bearing Dust Cover and all necessary hardware. Kits available for the 640/950/990 Adventure and Super Enduro I sent them an email, we will see. Anyone know of a stateside solution? I have an almost new stabilizer sitting here but dont know if I want to drop 4 bills to get it mounted (unless I have to )...

I think the problem comes from the way the bar mounting surface on the clamps is angled. Maybe if you could mill that flat you could use a normal LC4 or EXC mount (about $70)? Or are the bolt holes angled as well?
Take a picture of the stock top triples you have now so I can see what it looks like. The LC4 triples would also match in offset, fork diameter and spacing, those should be much cheaper to find used.

I wonder if we could just us a TC from a regular KTM?? I need to look at some measurements on my 450.

EXC clamps have 20mm offset, so you would have to use both upper and lower. The steering stem is a bit shorter (LC8 one will swap in) and it doesn't have the mount for the steering lock.
I think an LC4 top clamp - not from a supermoto as they are too wide - would be easiest, then get the nice billet submount from Stenhouse racing.

As an FYI
Shock Treatment are a very reputable outfit. Terry Hay (owner) runs and supports a couple of race teams in OZ and also runs Shock Treatment as a good business in its own right. Quote:

Unfortunately they never responded.
So I have gone the BRP route. It's only money...

As I try to resurrect the thread, has anyone had luck with the original problem of installing a Scotts damper without a new top triple clamp? Must be some engineers out there who can figure it out.
Perhaps a mount that goes on top of the handle bar and then an extra long tower pin? I realize that the longer the tower pin the more likely the pin will flex, but I think that it won't flex enough to come out of the arm hole. Thoughts? BG

I've looked into mounting a Scotts without replacing the top triples for over a year. I've read up on all the forums and even called Scotts Performance Products customer service. There is no way to mount the damper without a new top triple clamp because of the swept back mounting posts on the stock triples.
I lucked out and got a new BRP top triples form an inmate for $250.00

There may be a solution
"DIY Scotts Adapter".
Haven't seen a 990 triple in detail, so I'm curious if this would work for ya. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...Scotts+Adapter |

Heard back from Paul @ HDB ... no-go from them.
"Unfortunately no, the stock upper triple on the 9XX's have an angled boss cast into them that make any style mount that gets sandwiched in between the upper triple and lower handlebar clamps very tough to make the centerlines of the damper and steering stem concentric. Without that it doesn't work."

Surprised to hear that.
I managed to make my Scotts center pivot axis line up perfectly with the center axis of the steering stem, due to the fact that the triple is on the same level plane as the Scott. The custom bar risers that bolted right onto those bosses, would take the offset of that angle and push the bar mount slightly back. |
