Wow Alcan Rider, those pics are awesome! It was your pics like those that made me want to do the ride this spring! A few humble entries from my one and only trip up and back.
[IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Near finger mountain. [IMG] [/IMG]In the pass [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Down into the flats [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]its 0230 hrs [IMG] [/IMG]0300 hrs just outside deadhorse. twenty eight degrees and windy, it was 81 at the circle sign! [IMG] [/IMG]Silly I know but these guys were everywhere getting warm on the road when I left Prudhoe. [IMG] [/IMG]Arctic Fox? [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]We had a staring contest. I kept looking around for his buddies but never saw another one. [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]Lots of these fast straits! [IMG] [/IMG]And fun fun fun when the road slicks up! [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]

AlcanRider, I very much appreciate you sharing your pictures with us, they are excellent.
I rode the Dalton only once in my life, one month ago, and I am still deeply impressed. I will come back to do some hiking in the Brooks Range and on the North Slope. This place is like a dream, it is pure heaven. I love it. Dingsbums screwed with this post 07-17-2010 at 11:59 PM |

I know what you mean about the area. After my first trip all the way to Deadhorse I decided that I had to go back and just camp along the Haul Road for about a month to experience it fully. Haven't done that yet, at least not all at once, but have probably spent over a month total with all the various trips up and down the highway. And I find myself wanting to get back up there again, right now, to just enjoy the remoteness and the solitude... and the beauty. Even in nasty, windy, rainy conditions, I like it. But it's a lot easier to take good photos when the weather is nice.

Great pictures, thank you for sharing. Not that I really needed it, but my appetite is wetted even more now!
Planning on doing Key West, FL to Prudhoe Bay for summer 2011.
