Overpriced farkle saves my Uly...

(and me!) a lot of trouble yesterday, without me even knowing it:

75 miles or so of forest roads, some pretty nasty with lots of rocks. Somewhere in there the oil filter protector looks to have sacrificed itself and saved my oil filter and/or the sensor right next to it.

I know they're overpriced, but sometimes this stuff is actually worth it... The skidplate has also proved quite robust over a lot of pretty rough terrain.

Unfortunately the damned oil filter protector is going to be $56 + shipping to replace.

Can't you grind it and weld it back up?

Sure, if I had TIG welding facilities... Or somebody who wanted to volunteer to do it for me.

Go ask in the garage. It's about 5 mins work tops. I would but I'm up in WA.

Thanks much for the advice. I'll look around for a shop in the area that might be able to do it. Don't have any hookups at the moment.

Could go to your local high school tech center. They would probably be very happy (and proud) to weld it for you.
