Great report and pictures! Really nice ones of the oil fields and equipment.
Maybe I missed it, but when did you start the trip?
Keep it going!!!

akadvntr, we left June 25th. I was very interested in the oilfield. As a young lad I worked for a company that supplied some of the first buildings and equipment to land in Prudhoe Bay. I'm sure most of that has probably been cut up for scrap by now but it was fun knowing I had a very small part in the development of the oilfield.

From Fairbanks we headed towards Tetlin Junction and the Top Of The World Highway.

We got wet before we arrived in Chicken!

Downtown Chicken

Then it was on to the border crossing back into the Yukon

The U.S. side

The border crossing is at 4100 ft. elevation. A short distance up the road is the high point, just over 4300 ft.

We saw a wolf up here but it was to fast for the cameras. I really enjoyed this road. for me it was a high point of the trip. No pun intended . Next stop was the Yukon River crossing.

Getting ready to unload

Our camp for the next two nights. I don't remember the name of the park but it was in Dawson City. Hot showers and laundry.
Drinking Yukon Jack in the Yukon! Just doesn't get any better than that.

This was an interesting building, all the siding and trim was sheet metal

Downtown Dawson City

Where did all the marmalade go?

After breakfast we did some sightseeing

The Klondike River(clean) is mixing with the Yukon

A bite of lunch

Then up to the Midnight Dome

The Klondike enters the Yukon

After the Dome it was off to see Dredge #4

Parks Canada is restoring this dredge. We missed the tour but still got to look around outside.

The dredges were powered with electricity. in 1959 the dam above this one burst leaving it buried this deep.

The flood ripped the buckets off

Tailings piles are still visible all around this area

Day 9
July 3rd 2010

The Top Of The World Highway was awesome.

even though we got a little wet.

chicken was kinda cool.

I've seen this pictured on here several times.

but never this one.

After Chicken the road is dirt.

The GPS said 4100 feet at the crossing

I took a Panorama but I suck at photoshop.
pictures don't do this place justice anyway.

Before you can go to Dawson City you have to ride the Ferry.

The GoldRush Campground

Dirt roads and wooden sidewalks.

Beer:30

Heading back to camp.

And the Sunset

Which isn't too far from the Sunrise.

More to come. Promise
