This is it, with a cold start.. You can hear the sound from about 0:40, and at 1:37

Is this normal?

Thanks!

I am guessing that is is cam chain noise. But, I am only guessing, so maybe someone else will chime in here.

Dear Adventurers!

I've got the 22500kms service done by the KTM service, and replaced my missing triangles and snorkel on the airbox, and had the carbs synced (damn it's a loud procedure). But now I have a very big problem (to me):

No matter what gear, no matter if EPC is pluged or unpluged, before the service, when the triangles and the snorkel was missing, it reved easily, but now it does the following:

for example in 3rd gear, at 58km/h, at about 3500rpm when I pull the gas to maximum, it loses power, and starts hickuping, after reaching the mighty 5000rpm mark it blows out.. Before the service, if I nailed the gas at 3500rpms, she lifted off, like a rocket.. but now it sucks.

For example if cruising in sixth gear, at 4000rpm, before the service if I nailed the gas, I could easily take over a car in front of me.. Now if I nail it, she almost dies, and loses almost all the power.

I've told the service, to take it for a ride, and try it, and they've told me, that "it's like that"... I just can't believe it that it's like that... It's like I've losen 70hp out of the 100hp she used to have in the 3500-5000rpm range..

So... what should I say to the service? and is there a fix for this? Or is this bike really like that?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sound's just a bit more 'metallic' than mine.
I'm guessing it's just the clutch plates rattling around.
I wouldn't worry about it.

I used to ride BMW's and got used to smooth quiet machines.
Then I bought my KTM and it has taken me a long time to get used to all the "strange" sounds that these bikes make.
But I'll tell ya, there's nothing like a 950 when you open the throttle!

Yeah, the clutch plates are my idea to, and the KTM Service said that the sound is normal, so I'm going to live with it..

Oh boy.. Lost the post:(

So:

1. I called the KTM guys to have a look at my bike, cause I think it shouldn't be like that.. They've told me, they're gonna call me back, but that didn't happen.

2. Being upset 'bout the KTM service, I've decided to pull the bike apart, and have a look at the carbs. It soon popped out, that the problem was the exact same thing, as described here:

http://ktm950.info/how/wotf/wotf.html

Quote:
KOTH: Improper venting of the carbs can also cause poor running (usually a hesitation/miss/surge in the midrange). ie: surging in 6th gear at ~70-75 mph. Refer to Canisterectomy for proper venting. We've even had an Inmate with a 950 that wouldn't pull 6th beyond 4k RPM. "Fell flat on its face." The problem was carb vents that were terminated inside the airbox (a definite NO-NO). We've seen more problems with improper carb venting than anything else. Seems folks just can't get their heads around the fact that simple is best. K.I.S.S.
3 words: float bowl venting

Yup those hoses were inside the airbox, so that's why it was running fine with the triangles off, and it was shite yesterday with them on.
So I've routed the hoses out from the airbox, put the bike together, Fired her up, and man.. I can tell you she runs like a dream.. Takes off like a Saturn V No hesitation beyond 3.5k-5k rpm.. So she's like before the KTM service...

Big grin on my face, hopefully cops didn't see my powerwheelies, as pulling a wheelie is illegal here:(

Just one bit of advice: when tanks and fairings, and everything is back on the bike, and you are putting back the glovebox... Well don't drop the bolt inside there somewhere, because you'll have to take it all apart again:) start with the glovebox when putting it together:)

Thanks for all of your help, I just love this site and community!

Cheers, Andrew

And one more thing, cause I've read it can get worse if the airfilter is dirty.. Yesterday they've put in a brand new oem filter, and even with a cleen filter she wasn't good!

And some pictures about the procedure:

Note that the front carbs venting hose routing is not the best maybe, but this way I didn't had to make another hole on the bottom of the airbox (as there were 2 holes unused there.. Well unused till now)

Is it normal for the stock sidestand, when it's extended (and the bike is on the centerstand), it has a little left-right movement? (I mean the left-right, as if I were sitting on the bike, and facing ahead)

(The case is not cracked, and the bolt which goes through the axis of the sidestand, is torqured to 10Nm)

Hi there!

As good weather is approaching, I'm putting my bike together.. Does anybody have any idea where this little fellow goes to?

It's an AH 8x40mm

Thanks!

The only 8X40 AH I find in the parts book are the top mounting bolts for the fuel tanks.

Yeah.. but those are not threaded all the way, are they?

Maybe somebody put the wrong bolt in at the service.. Wouldn't be a surprise.. because as I think there aren't any 8x40 fully threaded bolts in this bike (out of the box).

What type of bolts goes in to the handlebar end, for the handguards?

Thanks,
S.

I was thinking the same thing, but the only other 8X40 I could find was a hex head.

The handguard bolt is shown, but not listed. But in the pic, it has a long unthreaded section.

Thank you!

I think they messed it up at the service, but I also think it really is the upper mounting bolt for the tank (but they've put back this one instead the original one), as you said.

Thanks once again:) Hopefully the bike won't fall apart under me
