UK Advrider meet - March Moon 2010

Off to Wales again for another March moon meet. First I had to get the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead then cross from Anglesey Is to mainland Wales via the Menai bridge.

A quick look around Port Dinorwic area

Parked at the marina but why put forestays on a Landy?

A cute cottage

Guarded by these two dudes

then up the B4547 where I saw this nice spot just North of the junction with the A4086 .

Next day Timpo would lead us up the Ugly house lane. This is the ugly house most of us would not get time to inspect.

Betwys y coed

Timpo led with the mighty Ferret sweeping. Excellent idea to have the biggest sweeper you can find. Thanks for the help Ferret

MM10 day 1 from hampsterracing

After joining the Adv forum three weeks ago the march moon rally looked interesting...............

a quick fishing message after it appeared there may may spaces resulted in a phone call on Wednesday saying come on up

a bit of a voyage of discovery as i had only met timpo and loz before.

i rolled up in the van early afternoon on friday set up camp then proceeded to fit the rear tyre timpo brought along for me.(with a few issues of course)

a pleasant evening in the pub meeting and greeting a few people and a great steak

so on to saturday morning

i was in R02 with muddymat crf230 and telford knobby ktm450 on my wr450.

joining us were

Ashbabble FE450
Rondini FE450
Cabbage2 DR350
Cupid Stunt 4.5i
Max Medic Serow225

a nice early start and we were first away at 08:45 after timpos toolbox talk (helped by loz

the first snag was soon to raise its head with a rear puncture for our glorious leader...

on through some more great lanes until the sherco decided to go AWOL with electrical gremlins. a bit of investigation and some wiring repairs we were away again.

on to the nice gnarly climb with the shit pit at the end next.this created a bit of havoc as several of us picked up bailer twine around the rear wheels.enough to stop the bike dead in my case !!

soon after the serrow had a moment and stopped only to restart and carry on for a short while before stopping again.the verdict was terminal with nasty graunching noises from the top end when it was turned over :-(

so max jumped on my bike to fetch his van whilst the others went off to do a loop and get fuel whilst i had a snooze in the sun.my snooze was disturbed by two bike coming down the lane it turned out to be two young lads on xr125's with road tyre's exploring after they saw our group exit the top.they were out to celebrate passing the theory test.max soon returned unloaded my bike and finished loading his up just as Matt returned.

no more incidents just plenty of great lanes with some stunning scenery in the sunshine.

after a long day it was finally back to camp at 18:45 !!
A great introduction to the ADV way of life

MM10 day 2 from hampsterracing

As i have a duff shoulder at the moment i opted for easy company on day two as Matt had another full day planned.(i will be back for that run another day Matt )

Timpo said that will be with the girls then ...................

you have too remember i'm new here .................

what a mistake

so

the runners were

Pumpy DRZ400 TEC
Sarah Teach Serow250
Debseed Serow250
Welshbird CRF230
Tinatrim TTR250 RL
Hampsterracing WR450
windy CCM404
Onyerbike BMW XC

another bright start to the day looked promising.

a quick briefing from pumpy and we were ready for the off.

Timpo was champing at the bit but who was he waiting for in his group

our least experienced member debseed made easy work of the rocky climb on the first lane of the day only to lose concentration 10 yards from the end.......

but the grin stayed all day

Sarah and ela

20 foot from the end of the next lane ..........

debseed upright

lots of lovely lanes in nice weather and i was slowly learning about the dirty girls

but with plenty of fag stops

the girls draining the water from debseeds bike.it didn't get dunked just stopped in a deep bit and seeped in

debseed having a rest

this was the end of the first half.

pumpy debseed windy and onyerbike split off to return to base as time was pressing for them while the rest of us set off for an extra loop.

half way over the open moorland trail the police helicopter came for a look at us.it then stayed as our shadow for the next 45 minutes !!!!

we stopped and waved but no response so we carried on our merry way.(the chopper overhead constantly is very off putting though !!)

shortly before getting back to base we were abruptly stopped by an unmarked police car shortly followed by two more !!!!

all the bikes were in order and we were warned they had videoed us and if we had been riding illegally we would be hearing from them.all very heavy handed really.

(but as we were all good trf members we were already happy the trails we used were ok)

the next two pics were stolen from Tina's camera (sorry Tina )

note the helicopter in the background.........

a great day out not a long day or big mileage but one that reminds you why you go trail riding.lovely scenery with sunshine and good company.no ego's just teamwork.

a big shout to debseed as well. fairly new to trail riding. rode to and from the event and camped. rode all day in some tricky conditions on unsuitable tyre's and still kept smiling.

Respect

big thanks to Tina and pumpy for the ride and the other dirty girls for the company

see you in the summer .....................

and you will have to ask sarahteach why she gave me a cuddle in a gateway...................

thanks all

Roger

I'd be smiling now if someone would put up a photo up of me upright on my bike The tyres are being sorted as we speak. Only problem with that is that I will have no excuse next time!! Obviously, I didnt have time to take many photos, but here are a few..

Pumpy giving out the instructions for the day. Something about gates and not losing the person behind you... . I've got it now, Pumpy! err pay attention, Tinatrim

We were somewhere in Wales.

The girls on one of the scheduled stops.

Fantastic weekend - great fun, and looking forward to meeting up with you all again soon.
