I`m tied up tomorrow too, and now a bit desperate about my chances to register my bike.

I think I`m screwed, but maybe somebody has a tip? Long story as short as possible- When I bought it, I thought the title looked good, but DMV didn`t like it- they wanted a bill of sale from a former owner. I tried it that way and it didn`t work out, so went on to Plan B, as dictated by two different DMV clerks. That way involved sending a certified letter to the former owner`s address from the title, and when it came back marked "undeliverable", I was supposed to bring the letter back to DMV with the otherwise bad title. I did that Fri night and got a temp permit because I also apparently needed inspection and the inspection station was closed. First thing this morning I got it inspected and went inside to finish up. This time the clerk gave me some kind of affidavit to fill out, then whe walked off. A moment later she came back and said I could stop writing because there had been a change of policy and I could no longer get title by the "attempt to contact" method. The only two options for that VIN were bill of sale or court order. When I asked which court, she just said the court from the county the vehicle is in- I should have asked (but it didn`t occure to me until later) whether there actually is a way to fix that through the court somehow, and people really do it, or whether it`s a hypothetical situation, like saying all I have to do is get an act of congress or a special exemption from the oval office. My questions: does anybody know what the clerk might have meant exactly when she mentioned a court order? A genuine option, or just wishing for a miracle? I`ve heard that using a different office might lead to different interpretations of the policy and different results. If I were to try it again in Carson, maybe? The thing that keeps me from rolling that die is that I`ve already spent like ten hours waiting in the Reno office (four trips) over the past 5 weeks, and if it isn`t going to amount to more than grasping at a straw, I don`t want to make a 90 minute round trip just for more waiting and another denial. Besides that, I have a luosy poker face and would already feel weird walking into a "foreign" DMV office when I`m clearly a Washoe County resident. What do you think? Any possibilites I might have missed, or justplan on parking the bike to watch for a like model with blown engine?

I can help you with this little issue. Very fixable as I purchased a bike with no title here in Nevada in August 2012 and by maybe October I had a title in hand.

You need a VIN check form from the DMV website, then have a Deputy or other Washoe Co. law enforcement Officer come to you or however it may work in Washoe, in Lyon Co. they send a deputy to your house, Carson does it that way also. They will read the VIN, call it in to make sure it isn't stolen, and then he/she will sign off on the form. Cost for this form and the VIN check should be $0.
You will also need a form from a court clerk, Justice court worked here in Dayton, so I would it would work in Reno as well. Maybe it was two forms. This form IIRC, will need a notory signature, and is pretty much self explanatory. You willl need a bill of sale, but as long as the VIN check comes back clear, your wife/brother/sister about anyone could write a bill of sale and sign the forms. Anyway, return forms back to the Justice court clerk, pay you moneys, and in a few days you will have a signed order form a judge ordering the DMV to issue a title. Take that form and what ever they give back to you (I think you need to take the VIN check paper back to DMV but I'm not sure) to DMV and they will do what ever they need to do and you will receive a title in the mail a week or so later. send me a PM if you have any questions. Not sure about the Reno DMV, but the one in Carson you can actually "get in line" online and the system will tell you where you are in line so you can get other stuff done while waiting. Works pretty well too.

That sounds reasonable, KLR. Thanks! I hope it still works that way. I should also mention that DMV`s bill of sale form speicifcally requests a DL number, so that kind of puts the whammy on caligraphy practice.

Give it a shot, I think it will work out.

Whoohoo, I`m registered! The bill of sale I had given up hope of finally came through, so I didn`t need to mess with the courts. I took it down today and passed my wait time in silent prayer, alternately requesting intervention from Yahweh, Buddah, Zeus, Alah, JC Superstar, Jehovah, Ilmenja, Dionyses, Odin, Tlaloc, Pele the fire god, Pele the soccer god, and Ronald Reagan. I don`t know which of them went to bat for me, but I owe somebody a drink because I finally walked out with a plate

Ride Tonight?

Anyone down to ride around the Truckee area tonight? Plans fell through with a buddy and don't want to roll alone.

I`m going to break in my shiny new license plate this weekend with lots of tame fire roads- probably Sunday, but could make it Sat if it`s more convenient for somebody else. Open for just about anything mellow, but as of now I`m thinking Doyle-Frenchman-Antelope out, maybe check out a short route I`ve been curious about in the Quincy area, then either slab or connect the dirt back to Reno by the more southern routes (Yuba Pass, Stampede, Dog Vy). Anybody interrested?

Ah, yeah! Groovy ride yesterday.
I ended up slabbing to Portola, then made a round of Plumas County`s finest dirt before playing the twisty game from Graeagle to Satley then home on 70/395. THAT`s why I wanted a dual sport

Lost

New to the forum, not sure if I should start a new thread (it's not that interesting). I was driving down the 395 entering minden, south of Carson city when I saw a fellow 1200GS. I gave a friendly wave and a point saying "hay nice bike" in my head. As I turned away I noticed that his wave back was actually his middle finger! Shocked I looked back it was apparent that his personality enjoyed my double take, he later rode up next to me and asked if I was on this forum and I said that I wasn't really (I signed up but haven't really posted yet). I couldn't really hear anything else he said because I was wearing earplugs. I figured I would try to find him when I returned from my trip.

If anyone can help "name that rider" it would be greatly appreciated. (I have something to say to him )

It was August 1st, Bike looked like it had been through hell and back I'm guessing white or grey 09 r1200gs. Right pannier was ratchet strapped to his bike. Along with a fuel can. Black riding gear that looked like it has never been washed. He took the 88 exit heading south. Likely has a habit of flipping people off. :)
