Jims bigass road trip
The plan was hatched last october; see some national parks, spend some time in Denver visiting kids, Mom, and Sis. I wanted to see Yelowstone and Tetons and as many other National Parks as possible in two weeks +-. I asked Don who is married to a gal I work with if he wanted to tag along and he was all for it. Don rode with me for the first three days and made an excellent riding partner; we parted ways at Yellowstone lake where he went north to Montana and I continued South headed towards Denver. The trip mileage was 3200 miles + I saw Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and Utah.
Heres is the final track..... ![]() The day before oil change, chain adjustment in Don's shop. ![]() Waiting for my riding partner to show up at our starting out point in Redmond. ![]() He showed up! ![]() We made our way out toward Alfalfa headed to Burns and beyond; Faith, Hope and Charity were all gussied up to see us off on this chilly but beautiful morning. Heated jacket liner would become one of my two best friends on this trip. ![]() ![]() This is what it looks like for much of the way from Bend Oregon all the way to Burns Oregon and beyond. Click the video.... ![]() ![]() The ride through Burns was uneventful, the morning sun even telegraphed the troopers presence to us from miles away. We gassed in Burns then quickly made our way down 78 towards the Alvord, Rome and beyond. ![]() ![]() A quick leg stretch in Riley. ![]() ![]() Looking south towards the Alvord, This is somewhat near where we came out on 78 last June on the last day of the mini GL ride. ![]() A couple of quick pictures and a drink of water and we were off again. The riding was pleasant and beautiful the lure of the unknown road ahead adding to the enjoyment. ![]() ![]() Our day one destination was Mountain Home Air Force Base where we would stay at the Sagebrush Inn; Perks of being retired Military. $39 gets me a room like this at any base in the world. ![]() ![]() We rolled into Mountain Home Airforce base around 2pm and got Don his pass, checked into our rooms and headed to town to find some grub. A ribeye and iced tea was my choice at AJs. Don went back to the base and I stayed in town and caught a meeting, on the way back I was treated to this beautiful rainbow and some cooling rain. ![]() ![]() When we left the next morning we stopped at the main gate for a wuick picture, the airman were quick to head our way and inquire about our doings...... ![]() More.... Day two we had breakfast at AJs where we had dinner then got some oil for the Triumph at wALLY WORLD. Our track would take us through Craters of the Moon National Monument. The riding through this area was AWESOME, we have lava beds here but these were different; nice curvy roads, newish asphalt, and great visibility through the corners. We followed farmland roads south of the Sawtooth Mountains, through the lava beds, and into the desert past Atomic City, and area with huge hangar like buildings and lot's of secretive govt gates and guards. Some pics.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More....... Couple helmet cam vids.... CLICK the PIC Wyoming inbetween Jackson and Pinedale ![]() Grand Tetons coming into Jackson WY.... ![]() More...............

More day two:
We headed out of Arco Idaho after gassing up, made our way to Rexberg Id and had lunch at a Pizza Hut from the past (never remodeled or cleaned) since 1979 or so... We took hwy 20 north and jogged off on a scenic byway that took us along the warm river and then back to 20. Nice farmland, forested, and curvy riverside roads; we stopped to feed the pet rainbows, traded bikes and headed to West Yellowstone Montana where we would stay the night. We stashed our bags and headed out to see Old Faithful. This nice lady took my picture at the sign while Don rode ahead to see if our park admission would be good for tomorrow too.... Arco.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Use your polarized lenzes and you can see them.. ![]() ![]() Don getting rid of some gum I put on his left footpeg when we traded bikes ![]() Our first construction delay... ![]() ![]() More.......

Before Don and I parted on Day three we had the priveledge of seing a mother grizzly bear and her three cubs, a pack of wolves feeding on a dead elk, and several hundred american tourists risking theirselves and babies trying to get closer and closer until the rangers started pushing the people back. Too far away for a real pic but I'll post it anyway.....
![]() If you look real close that grey thing is one of the wolves.. ![]() ![]() This makes me hungry for a burger.... ![]() Somewhere on day three... ![]() This was the last I would see of Don until I got home. Don, thanks for riding with me; your company was enjoyed! You also got me hooked on Pledge for keeping my visor, shield and headlights clean!! ![]() Yellowstone Lake ![]() I pretty much just rode hard the rest of the way out of Yellowstone, stopped for a picture here and there. The Tetons were AWE INSPIRING, I came around a corner and when they came into view I just had to thank God out loud inside my helmet. ![]() Got to see this guy before leaving Yellowstone. ![]() ![]() You can tell that Yellowtone has been ravaged by fires recently. ![]() ![]() Yellowstone in my rear view, Grand Tetons coming right up... ![]() ![]() More......
