your reports are awesome!! I am so in for this.

And dont worry you're not the first Ozzy to come over to the Kiwi side. Whats that saying once you go black....

Just out of interest how many of these fine young ladies are single and how many have bad ass biker boy friends? Possibly not the best mistake to make in a vodka induced haze.

Touching the bulls balls brings good luck

Hallo Colebatch,

It is great to read your report since I was in Sokcho only a couple of weeks before you and have shots in my camera from the same places as you. I am in Barnaul right now but good internet connectiuons have been scarce so I have not started reporting....

I was told that touching the bulls balls brings good luck?

Blin ... Then I guess I am going to be unlucky !

Actually I would have been happy just to get a blog-tastic foto of a cute Korean girl getting on her knees and kissing the bulls balls ... but you are right ... I was unlucky!

Customs clearance in Vladivostok - Engage Yuri Melnikov

Colebatch & Doug,

I was also scheduled to take the Zarubino ferry but it seems that for some reason Zarubino port is not favoured by Dong Chun Ferry for time being. In June I was told that there is a weekly service to Zarubino however this changed and my 5th of July ferry was cancelled and so was the 12th of July departure as well.

Hence I took the 4th of July ferry to Vladivostok, very nervous about the clearance in Vladivostok. I had got the coordinates of Yuri Melnikov from Doug and engaged him as customs broker. The bike was cleared in less than four hours, we visited for handing in the papers early afternoon and fetched the documents 4 hours later. For a smooth clearance Yuri requested me to send photos of the frame and engine numbers of the bike in advance, he then prepares a file with all the data for the customs which can be helpful for omitting a time-consuming inspection. Yuri helped with arranging the bike insurance as well. You can reach Yuri on ymelnik@links-ltd.com

I would therefore not hesitate to ship to Vladivostok another time. At least as long as the customs office ladies continue the "shortest skirt / highest heels" competition...

If we had arrived in Zarubino, the bikes would have been ridden off the boat, been processed by customs as part of the normal arrival procedure and we would be all clear by now.

Monday began well, after a weekend of solid rain, there was sunshine and patches of blue sky. We hoped to get the bikes out of customs today. We went down to the port and the agents who handle the Dong Chun ferry helped us get the paperwork together. By the time we had the paperwork together, and had driven up to the Customs building that handled vehicle imports (not at the port) they had just about closed for lunch.

I wandered around to get some pictures of the location on my phone-camera. By now the cloud had totally cleared and we had a fine hot muggy Vladivostok day. I spotted some customs girls also taking in the view on their lunch break and wandered over for a chat.

They were very friendly and with them onside, the customs documents for the bikes, with “as long as we wanted” timescale (we kept it at 3 months since that was the limit of Sherri Jo’s visa) came soon after lunch. It confirmed my view that it’s always good to make friends with the right people.

I took a few fotos of my new customs officer friends, but only on the condition that they must have faces blanked out if used on the internet. So sorry, but thats the deal - i promised:

Armed with our approved Customs declarations we headed back to the port to get our bikes released. But it wasn’t so simple. Because it was Vladivostok and not Zarubino, there was also a port charge for handling the vehicular cargo, of 2600 rubles (about 55 quid).

I made a mental note (and now a written note) … when taking the Dong Chun ferry, avoid the runs to Vladivostok like the plague. Going to Vladivostok by the ferry will cost you in port charges and will be a bit of a pain to get the customs stuff done (nice customs girls excluded). Unloading at Zarubino is a “ride the bike off the boat and straight to customs where you will be fully processed in under 2 hours” deal .. So it’s got to be Zarubino!

Im told its because of all the crap that comes from japan to vladi.
I'll also hope to never ship to/from vladi again.

I wasn't sure what this "World Cup" is so I did a little research..... It seems it's a Canadian plot to make Americans miss Curling.

Its a ball sport festival held every 4 years where the Kiwis get to do their Haka 5 times before suffering a shock loss in the semi-finals ... usually to France.

Due to persistent Kiwi complaints, the authorities outlawed opposition teams mooning the Kiwis while they do the Haka.

The neutrals always want the Kiwis to win, since they are always the best team and play entertaining Rugby, but the Kiwis just seem unable to get it together when it counts. They kinda get everyone's sympathy vote.

Always assume a hot chick at a biker party is there cause she is with her dude.

Err on the side of safety ... Unless she specifically tells you otherwise or sticks her tongue down your throat (thats no guarantee either).

Dancers, on the other hand, are a different story ...

Wasn't that one the Kiwi's won on invitation only, and therefore doesn't really count? In saying that, they do field all rugby players each game though. The poms usually have Beckham's brother coming in kicking some goals. I think the only team to win a semi final without scoring a try. Although lately he's relegated to the bench, just like his brother.

Interesting look:

Sherri Jo with Pasha, the club mechanic:

I went out the back, to see what was happening around the bikes:

Dodz was entertaining his girlfriend, one of the hostesses for the evening:
