( SORRY NOEL )
I tried to resist but just couldn't. I'll steer clear of your grill for a while and try cooling it down by pouring beer into it. I really am sorry about Jake and hope he heals up quickly. Now, at least, if he gets mouthy, you can say, "If I want any lip off you, I'll scrape it of that car you hit."

Thanks.
It was on the Husky "Trip to the Tip" ride. At about 8500 miles, just outside Ciudad Constitución, BCS I noticed a knocking sound. It got worse heading toward La Paz so I decided to stop riding. The knocking sounded like it was coming from low in the engine. The filter and screens appeared to have a bit of metal, nothing big but enough to cause concern.

We assumed con-rod bearing failure, guessed it to be a result of bad gas. We'd gotten much of our fuel on the way down from remote villages, buckets, drums, etc.

Back in the states, I dropped the engine off at Uptite. Engine apart, there is no smoking gun, no scoring in the cylinder, no obvious failures. Engine appears to be in pretty good shape.

Some items were a bit worn, clearances loose, nothing terribly significant so it's a bit of a mystery. They are being replaced, new bearings, bushings, rings, etc.

Sooo, the source of the knock... frankly, dunno exactly. I seem to be the anomaly, I haven't really heard of anyone with a similar story so I would worry about it. On a side note: a couple of the washers/cups, what ever they are called, for the springs on the on the clutch were cracked, most were worn. The metal bits fell harmlessly to the bottom, and the absence of a couple of the washers didn't appear to do any harm, but that might be something to keep an eye on.

Thanks fo the info. I'll take a look at the clutch spring keepers.

My Husky 610 SM just hit 10K miles and no issues thus far, it ran like a champ last Sunday!

Just out of curiosity, what type of oil & viscosity do you use? Also what brand of oil filter?

All packed up, should be hitting the road by 3:30 AM at the latest and going straight to the Shell before the 9 Mile turn off to stop for ice and a short rest.
