Day trip the Santa Barbara back country
It had been a LONG time since I've been in the back country behind Santa Barbara so I decided it was a good time to revisit the area. I kinda grew up riding in these hills so it came back quickly. I started my ride from my house in Camarillo heading north up 101 then up into the mountains behind SB and down into the valley just behind where the Santa Ynez river begins.
Here's some pix from the ride: I detoured to the old Hwy 1 just north of Ventura. ![]() How 'bout the view this guy has? ![]() I will be heading towards Pendola Station and Big Caliente Hot Springs ![]() A view of the valley below and the road I will be riding down ![]() Now the fun begins....... ![]() ![]() ![]() There is a natural hot spring that feeds this tub. The current tub was built by volunteers, it wasn't this nice the last time I was there 15 yrs ago. ![]() And now for a nice peaceful lunch......

After lunch I continued on down the valley floor as far as I could go before turning around.

Love that country. I stayed in Montecito some years back before doing the Long beach to Cabo race. Just love the whole area. Sant barbara is fantastic. I stayed with a mate who owned the company that made Guess Watches so he had done well and live up the top -his next door neighbour was Steve Martin who is as funny in real life as he is in the movies.
Thanks for bringing back such good memories. PS forgot to mention I nearly died the first night a real lot of noise woke me up-it was bloody coyotes into the trash. |
