More Redmond Rally pics

So after 3 glorious days of fly fishing we make it to the Expo Center in Redmond Oregon and set up camp.

It is not the same as camping by a river but we are excited to be there and start taking in the activities.

First we hit the venders...Most every major adventure bike accessory vender is here.

We hit the Altrider display and before long.....

My bike gets some cool swag from the Altrider boys, free installation too!

Bropher gets his V-Strom all ADV'd out with some crash bars and a massive skid plate.

The entire first day is spent looking at all the cool stuff that could be put on our bikes.

Day two We awoke to bright sunshine.

We tried to get a spot by the "cement pond" but it was already full.

We almost got the fly rods out to pretend we were fishing but then decided we wanted breakfast instead!

Everywhere you look there were mountains.
This is a great place to have a rally!

So I signed up for this cool trip to Mt. Bachelor and leave right after breakfast.

The road gets really nice between Bend and Bachelor.

Even the parking lot here is pretty.

It's was about 85 degrees when I left Redmond but up here it is about 75.

Part of the trip is you get to ride a chairlift up to a nice restaurant at the summit.

This was the view from the restaurant

On the way down I am offered a ride on this cool looking golf cart to go see some sled dogs. I think this could be kinda fun.

When I get there they asked if I would like to be PULLED by the sled dogs in this same golf cart....YEAH!

These dogs are incredible! They yank the cart like it weighed nothing.
The guy told me that this is half the dogs they would normally use for the Iditarod race in Alaska.

So I get a Mt. Bachelor decal for my pannier and decide to take the scenic route back to the Rally.

Here are some of the more photogenic stops.

Playing with the camera

Gotta love tripods and self timers

So far this has been a great experience. I can see why people come to these rally's from all over.

Gotta get back to work.. I will post more tomorrow.

I used two ss hose clamps and a triangular Cabela's rod tube attached to the crossbar that runs between the panniers.

This was really stable and after 1,000 miles of pavement and gravel it was still solid.

I will be posting more pics later today.....
Hey! we saw that bike at the rally! one of our guys commented on the tube.

great pics and story!

Damn, that bow looks delicious. That's it, I am going to the park this weekend and get me some dinner. I love the taste of wild brookie.

Yeah they are small up in the Smokies, but they are delicious.

More Redmond Rally pics

I can finally post the rest of the photos from the rally.

It is now Saturday, the last day of the rally and there so many things left to see.

I start the morning with my trusty Jetboil and instant coffee to get things going.

Brrrrr.

When the sun finally hits it warms up quick!

First item on our agenda is English Trials.

You gotta love a guy that will put his vintage airhead in a competition against modern bikes.

Waiting for the start.

Another vintage airhead. Love that helmet!

The slippery grass was a challange for the bikes with street tires.

In the final stage of the trials the crowd got to throw water balloons at the riders. I can't say if they do that in real trials but they should!

After the trials we went to the vintage bike display.

WOW!!

There were some very cool bikes on display but this one was my favorite.

After wiping off the drool from our faces we were off to see some stunt riding.

This guy could do some incredible stunts!
First he wowed the crowd on a 1000RR

Pretty impressive until he brings out a fully bagged F800GS and does the same stunts!!

The wheelies are cool but the stoppies are Insane!

On our way back we see this cool dog that rode here on a KLR!

It is starting to get late, We hit the vendors one last time and it's on to the closing ceremonies.

While the crowd waits for the ceremonies to start they shoot t-shirts out of this compressed air cannon!
The shirts fly a couple hundred feet, WOW.

So I'm talking to bropher and I notice that the cannon girl is pointing our way and SMACK! I get clobbered right on the chin!

They pack the shirts really tight and they hurt. But it was totally worth it cause I now have a cool BMW shirt made out of that wicking material, Sweet!

So the ceremonies are done, they giveaway a alot of cool items including a brand new F800GS.

We take one last photo with some of our new friends.

On our way home on Sunday we ride Mckenzie pass and it is spectacular!

Here is one of the many lava fields we rode past.

We find this great riverside restaurant to eat lunch at.

What a view!

The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful.

As a noob to a rally I can tell you I would go again in a heartbeat!

Maybe next year I will fly fish my way to Pa.

Hmmm.........

Fantastic RR and photos.

Bropher, glad we ran into you and were able to spend some time catching up. We fought off the crowd around your Strom on Saturday to get a peek at the new additions to your steed. Looks good.

FishGS, pleasure meeting you. Hope we can get together down the road.

Again, great RR.

Take care,
Joe & Anitra

This was a great post to see. I got in to adventure riding to increase my fly fishing. I was happy to see your packing pics as I was trying to figure out how to do it. Good to see you stopped in to Hazel's shop on the D.

Btw, the Oster rods are amazing!

Hey Joe and Anitra, it was nice meeting you two at the Rally.
Judging by the lava field behind you it looks like you took McKenzie Pass home also!

Your right Nookslayer, Those Oyster rods are really something.
I doubt I will ever be good enough to really appreciate one of those.

And donnymoto is spot on about combining our love of
adventure motorcycling and fly fishing!

Yeah Donnymoto - I agree! This was our first shot at riding, fishin', and camping. It was a great time - the Metolius river is a total Blue ribbon stream - you definitely have to be on your game. This river should be on everyone's bucket list!
