Cheap battery powered GPS
Hello, I would like to purchase a cheap and simple GPS for my travels on my bike. Ive used an Iphone before and liked its GPS capabilities alot. I dont need step by step directions or anything fancy like weather reports. Just looking for something with a detailed map (like google maps) that can show my current location. I would like to just use an old iphone (the ones w/ gps of course) but ive heard that you need to access the internet to get the maps. Is there a way to download a map of a country before hand? If not, it wont be practical for me if I have to access the internet (high cost, i live in s.a.).
Anything of the sorts out there? It would have to be battery powered (or pre charged) as well as i ride an '82 R100RS with the original charging system. Need all the juice for charging my battery |

GPS receivers that can hold detailed maps tend not to be cheap, and detailed maps tend not to be cheap[0]. This is why Google Maps is such a win if you have constant inet.
If it were me, I'd get a used "high sensitivity" handheld like the 60-series or similar[1] and buy used, non-locked country maps off eBay. And I'd invest in a GOOD charger and batts. None of this "30min charger!" stuff. jc [0] for various definitions of "cheap" [1] 60cx, 60csx, etc |
