The next morning we all decided to take a short cut to Bannack ghost town via a gravel road that runs from Ruby Res to Dillon .
Sweetwater Rd is a fun easy high speed gravel road that I had run coming to Darby early in my trip.

We had a new comer to the group on a beautiful Triumph Scrambler.
I apologize, I can not remember his name

Here is Ed on his beautiful 950 blazing by at obnoxious speeds

Near the end of this road, crews were applying mag chloride for dust control When we got into Dillon, the first order of business was to locate a car wash.
Ed had everything under control in a few moments

We grabbed a late breakfast then it was on to Bannack

What a really neat place! A fully restored town, now a state park with lots of buildings to explore!

I like this photo!

Some of these building have some really cool architecture!

The vault inside of the hotel

A bullet hole in the corner of the vault door! Looks to be a .45 cal to me

A really cool curved stair case in the hotel

The kitchen stove probably weighed a ton!

Another stove

Be back in awhile with more..............

After 5 hours or so of trying to deceive the trout, I headed up to Hebgen Lake to find a camping spot.

Hebgen Lake is a beautiful spot to camp!

We camped at the USFS campground there whre the Madison enters the lake and had a huge grizz come by the tent in the evening just as we went to bed.

How did you sleep that night

6 years ago, fishing in the Gibbon river in Y.N.P. a young male griz came up behind me and my son. He was standing on his hind legs looking at us from a distance of 20 yards

He went on his way and left us alone !!

Here's some more pics of the Bannack Ghost Town

This bartender looks like he means business

A brief story about one of the towns more notable characters

Some of the mining equipment used during the period

An old International truck

A old western garage complete with transportation

The old church above

Detail of hand hewn dovetails

The jail house

Inside of the Masonic building

Inside of the school. Looks like the students are bored

I guess kids haven't changed much

Thats about all for the town of Bannack. Next up back to darby!

Speaking for Beth and I - it was a fortunate circumstance for us you rolled up when I had my flat - not because of all the help (though that was awesome) - but for the 4 or so days that followed. We really lucked out running into you and Geek and Tweetie and finishing the 1000 with you three.

What a great time.

Back at Darby with the Mt1000 now behind us, the camp grounds were starting to get busy as we set up our tents.

A beautiful sunset over the Bitterroot Valley.
It was time to relax and socialize a bit I did not take any more pics of the evening as I was busy taking to many folks.

The next day I had to do some maintenance on the KLR.
ED and I both washed and re-oiled our air cleaners

These guys were very ambitious!

This gentleman (kynbanjo) provided us with some fantastic southern home made brew made from strawberries and who knows what else!

Here is a really interesting gentleman I had the pleasure to meet
He has a wonderful business plan for the area involving growing some sort of crops

Thats funny

I spent several hours chasing trout on this picturesque stream!

Back at camp us KLRista's got together for a photo opp
If the bike on the end fell over and started a chain reaction, there would likely be a $1000 worth of damage done

Thats all I got for West Fest
The de-noobing was great but I did not have my camera
In the morning it was time to say goodbye to all the wonderfull people I had the honor of meeting and riding with! Thanks, you guys ROCK!

Thanks to all of you who took the time to put these two events together, it was a very memorable gathering.

A special thanks to all the people I was lucky enough to get to know and ride with;
John,Rick, Pete, Tim

Ed, Cheryl, Shawn, Beth

Now it is time to head home to St. Louis and ride a few more gravel roads out west!

More to come
