I was thinking about going (never been).
I'm coming from a different direction, though. I don't know what to expect - If I go, I'd just show up mid-afternoon and walk around? 'zat it? Would I be out of place with a ginormous dual sport? (not that I would care). . |

No Buddy, you'd be out of place on a small Dual Sport.
It is quite the spectacle and I would guess the turnout will be massive. There is some fairly nice riding along the Grand River once you get tired of the crowd. Show up Dirty drcool

Fiance and I rode through there on Monday, first time I've been there in 10-12 years, never on a bike. It was the holiday Monday and it was a zoo, totally insane, after that experience don't think I'd ever go back when it's even busier, after going around the block twice to find a parking spot we had a quick bite to eat and got out of there. We did get a lot of strange looks though from the pirates who were all over the place.

Please take pics so those of us who have moved away can see the sights. My first PD13 was just after I started riding in 01 and I didn't miss one until I moved to Ab in 06. I'm planning on getting out for a ride here in Ab on Friday The 13th

(a look at what happened last year)
Conformity creates confusion at Port Dover Nov. 13, 2009, Port Dover, Ontario – Thousands of bikers were left stranded today at the latest Port Dover Friday 13th gathering. Many simply could not find their motorcycles to ride home because most parked in the small Ontario fishing village were of the exact same model, style and color. Nick Burns, standing in frustration next to a Harley admittedly not his own said, “This is the fourteenth one I’ve tried to put my key into. I had no idea there were going to be this many identical bikes here.” Another rider, Al Amundson, clearly agitated by the situation added, “Next time I’m going to remember just where I parked. Or maybe get a scooter. This is ridiculous.” Vendors at the event held every Friday the 13th for the past 28 years were doing brisk business especially those offering customizing. One such proprietor, Gene Saks suggested, “This clearly shows the importance of making your bike stand out more. Look at all the fringe, skulls and flames in this place. Talk about trying to find a needle in a haystack.” Port Dover town officials were concerned many motorcycles would need to be left overnight or at least until most of the crowd were able to locate theirs. Local police were ready to discourage any random hotwiring. Sandra Marko, sitting on her already running bike, had a solution. “I just keep this long-stemmed plastic daisy sticking out my tailpipe. Works every time.”

And the caponord is flickable. I'm not sure yet, but I would like to see PD13 sometime - might as well be this year - more time on my hands - and taking a day here or there when I think I need it (which is often). When you're on salary, banked vacation time is worth shit unless you use it. If you're planning to be there, Scott - PM your cell number and I'll try to catch up if I make it. . |
