Cool. Always amazing how quickly things dry out at altitude despite all the snow.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Beautiful Pic's- Looks like you had some great conditions...

Can you tell me where the Rainbow trail starts in Salida? and I understand it runs all of the way down south..

Would like to ride from Salida to Westcliff and was told about 100 miles or so?

The Rainbow Trail starts west/southwest of Salida, up Silver Creek. Silver Creek is to the west of Poncha Pass and hwy 285. If you head up Poncha Pass, you'll see a sign for Marshall Pass/O'Haver Lake... take that road a few miles and you'll come to the old Shirley townsite. From there follow Silver creek for a few more miles toward the Mears Toll road; the western terminus of the Rainbow Trail is just before the old toll road.

From there it is 7 miles of singletrack back to hwy 285, then crosses the hwy to the east. The next "bailout" would be Sand Gulch road (where I started yesterday), then Methodist Mountain, then Bear Creek, and on and on.

The trail eventually ends down at Medano Pass road I believe: something like 125 miles? I haven't ridden the southern/eastern sections past the Rainbow Lake road; it all turns to ATV trail down there. I'm more interested in the singletrack.

Thanks for the comments; I'm never sure if anyone actually looks at this.

Thanks for sharing your rides and posting the gorgeous photos, Duke. I read every word of your reports and hope to be riding some of the same trails soon.

When I die, I want to come back as you.

Tell me again why I live in Indiana?

I love fishing that area and now that I am starting do DS riding, what amount of riding is open to a newbie on a KLR to learn on? Awesome pics and what is this shop you are rumored to frequent for when I am that neck of the woods next?
