How long does it take for the snow to melt off of all but the highest trails?

I am reluctant to post these, because so many in Colorado are hurting and in the paths of wildfires today. I was off work and really needed a ride, and there's not much I can do to help. :( I hope it doesn't seem improper, and I don't want to jinx it, but not everything is burning in Colorado. We just had some good rain come through, but there was also a lot of lightning... I'm hoping nothing flares up.

I knew some weather was coming, so I decided to just get out early before the storms...

Headed out toward Mt. Antero this morning... There are a bunch of jeep trails that go up very high, and I haven't been on all of them, so it seemed like a good area to explore.

Sign at the trailhead, just off the St. Elmo/Tincup road...

It rained a bit up there last night, and some areas had mud and puddles.

Nice little water crossing...

more in a minute...

Going up! I won't lie; this section is a steep, loose SOB.

Up top:

Actually the top is up there, but there's no road: Mt. Antero, 14,275

End of the road. Look closely; that's Pike's Peak in the distance there, and you can see the smoke plume from the fire in Colorado Springs.

headed back down...

A lot of the roads are not really difficult; just don't fuck up!

steep, and there might be a few Charla Heads...

Back to more hospitable elevations...

then back up toward Baldwin Lake. Just past this hill, this road starts getting rocky:

At a mine above Baldwin Lakes:

And headed back down...

Took a little break at this meadow on the way back; watched some fish feeding in the crystal clear water. Gorgeous campsites nearby. I need to come back.

Then I just headed down, with some light rain catching me as I came down Chalk Creek.

hit the pavement and blazed back home a little before the storm made it...

the end

Thanks!

The rain was nice, and it cooled down a lot. I hope it pours over by Colorado Springs.

I miss the water crossings, on the front range they are few and far between

Thanks Duke! I've seen the trail that goes to Boulder Mtn, but microwave size boulders aren't my cup-o-tea.

I went up that way a little bit, but it was beginning to rain. I have to go back; I love that sh*t.
