Grants Pass to Gold Beach via Dev Rd 23

I'm looking for a twisty paved road from Grants Pass, OR to the coast. I saw Nat for Dev Rd 23. Anybody know if it's paved? How's the ride? Looks pretty fun.

I believe you are referring to the infamous Bear Camp Rd. Paved minus short washout that is gravel. Watch out for vans pulling river rafts, but otherwise beautifull.

Yes it's mostly paved, has a lot of frost heaves but most are clearly marked. I rode it at night a couple weeks ago and it was pretty hairy in a few places, since I could not see the marks

If headed towards the coast, on Bear Camp I usually take Peavine Lookout Rd. It adds a few miles to the trip but those miles are much less traveled by others.

Just beware of raft shuttle traffic. They act like they own the road and most of the time they are driving in your lane. If you happen to come up on one going the same direction as you, don't expect them to let you by, In my experience they usually won't

It's kinda fun when you are coming up on a shuttle going the same direction as you

You start smelling the suntan lotion miles and miles away

The Peavine route was freshly oiled just a couple o' days ago. I'd advise staying on Bear Camp for right now. No oil at all! Saw lots of raft carriers, (10-15)all on their side of the road and behaving pretty good. It was about 5 p.m. and I was eastbound , they were westbound. ( empty trailers behind them ). Hug the right, shouldn't be a problem! Enjoy , GREAT road!

Only problem with hugging the right is that they are usually hugging the left

Recently started a thread regarding the same road.

Do be safe - we were in a full sized car nearly run off the road by the raft vans.
