Thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure that nothing happened Friday night that anybody would be interested in seeing anyway

...so on to Saturday...

Isn't it supposed to be good luck to find a Gnome Home?

After a leisurely breakfast Chris Land and myself decided to ride over the Skalkaho Pass and try to find the ghost town of Granite.

While gassing up for the ride......

This one was even more yaller than Chris' GS!

Soon the car and camper show was over and we were on our way.

We found that we were not alone in our quest.

Just a few miles away from the main highway the pavement gives way to oil-soaked gravel.

Uhoh.....we've got more company!

I don't know why those guys were standing?....my butt stayed planted in the Russell Day Long. (it was a smooth road)

Holy Cow!! We've got ourselves a convoy!!

The two of us stopped at the falls.

The falls are literally right on the road....and btw that was just one of 3 big Harleys we seen up there that day!

Smooth easy dust free gravel the Skalkaho is.

But it's pretty and it's a long way around the mountain if you cross elsewhere...

Once back on pavement it was time to try and find a town of ghosts!

Heck, it's more yaller than my GS and my CJ3B combined.

Pffft. GPS, maps. How hard could that be?

OK off to see the ghosts.....if they exist and if we can find them...

We heard that Granite was near Philipsburg? how hard can that be to find?

Philipsburg seemed lively enough....so which way now? Hey this looks pretty scary!

It was fun and scenic....but no ghosts.

So I marked the territory and we moved on....

...it must be on the other side of town...

I told him that it was his turn to try and hopefully he'd have better luck!

Well Chris will get all the glory for finding Granite...

This was part of an old "ski lift" type structure that was used to carry ore down the mountain.

Well I guess the sign says it all

What's left of the Miners Union Hall

This was the home of the last resident of Granite....a 70-something year old woman that lived here up into 1960-something....

That was all we found down that street...lets see what else we can find up here...

We found the Mine Superintendent's home to be largely intact.

Boarded up and locked up though

About the only other structures we found belonged to the mine itself.

...let's see if there's a road to that upper level....

Yep.....there it is!

Two bikes with SC plates out exploring ghost towns in MT

I imagine that it was quite loud working one of these mine sites...but the view didn't hurt for much!

Well it was getting to be about that time to find some lunch or head back to camp.....

...and since it seems that ghosts don't eat very much we needed to head back down the mtn....

Looks like a giant game of Jenga, eh?

Chris says "c'mon..let's get this show on the road!!"

...it's hard to leave town before you've burned a roll of film...

One look back for history's sake.

...and down the mtn we go....

Well as it turned out Phillipsburg (or whatever that town was) turns into a ghost town itself from 3 to 4 every afternoon so we had to settle for a snack at the gas station before our trip back over the Skalkaho.....but I think that I know a short-cut to get there!!

Add that to the fact that I'm the 2010 WestFest Tire Bowling Champion, Male Division , and I may have to buy a bigger helmet.

Call my agent to book autograph sessions.

Chris

Yeah Duke...the infamous short-cut. It's about to fill Chris' big 'ol head full of dust!

Well the short-cut started out easy enough...

...but then it suddenly became 10 miles of fresh deep, loose and dusty marbles!

With Bambi playing motorsickle suicide!

I kinda felt sorry for Chris' big 'ol head back there in all that dust.

When we got back to the Skalkaho I slid back to the back again.

Not a bad pass for a scenic tour, eh!

Next up......a sample of the De-n00bing ceremonies.

Thanks guys......and you'll get your turn coates!

OK...meanwhile back at camp.....

IBGONE may have been camera shy, but I prolly botched the timing...

I have no idea what these guys were lying about but it looks like kennyanc has already had his fill of pulled pork!

With bellies full of BBQ the crowd assembles to witness the de-n00bings.

I have no idea what Putts has in that jar!

I'm suffering from lens envy....

Hippies were everywhere you looked!

BgDaddy has no idea that his lovely bride has flown in from Florida to surprise him tonight!

Mr and Mrs Kinsman....the two responsible for feeding this mob!!

Celebrity sightings....

Klay's a lumberjack....

...and he's OK! (c'mon, you know the song!)

...it seemed everybody was pulling up a chair in anticipation....

First up would be the test of skill.....Putts shows the n00bs just how easy it is...

...an alternate view of town.

C'mon already!! Let's get this show on the road!

Geek the guide.

OK here come the n00bs!! Whoa Nellie!!

Old's cool makin' it look easy.

T_T on the Ape'

Putts showin' that you don't need a trials bike to do this!

I was diggin' the luggage rack on this old schooler!

"I gotta go where?"

His dog would ride on the bike with him...but was smart enough to know when to jump off!

Ha ha... you knocked one over!

ooops

There's what everybody was waiting for!!

Well that was just about the end of the riding portion of the de-n00bings....now would come the scary stuff!!

Everyone seemed to be having fun with the riders though!

When a guy steps up wearing something like this you know there's going to be trouble!

Oh my eyes!!

Shady Rascal decided to walk the plank across the log rolling pond instead of wearing a dress, singing and dancing or drinking whatever that was that Putts had in that jar!

You want me to what?

It's just a bad joke, right....right?

more log hoppers...

Sgt. Marty says..."All you gotta do is walk around camp in a nightie"

Lots of log hoppers....it was too easy.

OK...what's BgDaddy gonna do?

You know he actually begged to wear that thing!

EEK!!!

advtenn....they've been waiting for this guy!

An ADV question from the crowd......

...an incorrect answer and you drink Putts' special brew...

Lemme think here...

WRONG!!!

It was noted that Todd even walked with an East Tennessee draawwl.

And finally... a swimmer!!

There were actually a few more deplorable things that happened but I was too scared of breaking my camera so early on in the trip...

There's still a lot of riding yet to be done, tomorrow morning advtenn, Merickk and myself would set out to see how much of the Continental Divide Trail we could ride between WestFest and the Rocky Mtn Adventure Rally.
