thats PROBABLY the problem then. slap some points back in it, I got a dollar says it runs. friends dad bought a newtronic, within a week, a pickup went bad, and his bike no go. points went RIGHT back in, fired up first or second kick.

On the other hand mines been going strong for 6 years. They can be buggy though. The wiring is very thin and can chafe or cut easily. Double check every connection all the way up.

Wonder if I should upgrade to a newer version of the newtronic? I was never good with points.

I'm messing around with an idea in my head to build a better solid state system utilizing a CDI and ignition pickup system from some bike such as a ninja 250, which I bet would dramatically improve reliability.

I think the little Ninja revs twice as high as the RD. Rev limiter please.

throttle stop=new high tech rev limiter. that'll be $11mil please

the ninja only revs to 14k, I've had an RD 250 up to around 10 once or twice, not sure how wise tha was, but I did it.

rev limiter can be programmed in easily though.

That's the bike i wish i had. I bought this thing two years ago, dirty as hell for $400, and took it home. It hadn't run in ten years, I changed the gas, got a new battery and it fired right up. I proceeded to tear it apart with the intention of doing a total resto. It sat for a year and a half, and my attention moved to other things. I'm just getting it back together and running, we'll see if riding this again convinces me to sell it, keep it and just ride it or do the resto. More soon...

I took a spanner to my, ahhmmm, 'project' for the first time today.

'77 RD400. The engine was removed years ago, by unknown. The cases have been split and gathering dust, spiders and wasps nests for several years.
But you get that.

Another hour or so on it in the morning, and it will be down to the bare frame.

Long term project, as money becomes available. I intend to make this into the cafe racer I wanted in 1977, the year I finished high school, got my licence and this RD left the factory.

It does appear that the last time the bike was ridden was around a muddy paddock.

Having had a squiz at some pieces some months ago ,
I don't expect inside the cases to be pretty.

Starting point.

Inspiration:

The white & red floats my boat.

Lets just get the frame started before I start counting chooks.
