We had seen Ben on his way to the top, but he had his game face on and kept going.

Making the turn down Wyman Canyon Jim was all smiles and thumbs up!!

We stopped for a break after a little stream crossing and could hear birds chirping up in the cliffs above us.

It's not a very good picture, but there is a California Condor sitting on the cliff. He's just under the lower power line, the dark figure...a king among birds.

I'd been jumping the bike a few times and broke a saddle bag strap.

After a quick repair we dipped into Nevada and the Fish Lake Valley for gas. I had a couple of waypoints for a secret place, but it was pretty hot and we had such a nice camp waiting for us I didn't take the time to find the place. I'll seek it out in November on my Death Valley trip.

There isn't another way thru the White Mountains back to Benton, so pavement was the only option. I got a great picture of SFKLR with Boundary Peak at over 13,000 feet in the background.

One time that I rode thru here we got into a swarm of bees, thousands of them. We pulled into a gas station and I got a kid from Texas to help me brush them off of me. It was on my mind as I'm mildly allergic to bee stings.

We got back to camp and I deep fried a hen. I tried making some biscuits in the boiling oil, but I don't think I had it hot enough and they were a little too oily to eat. Looking at the stars for us city dwellers is a real treat as we can't see the heavens in town.

Hey, Baja Ho! I remember. That was a good day in La Paz. Yes, the XR continues to amaze me at what it can do, but I still baby it for fear of tearing it apart. After the last couple of trips I guess I should relax and just let 'er rip. How's your summer been? I'm gonna look and see if you have posted any ride reports lately ....

Thanks for reading!!

Hiya Heidi!!

Ok, I had to split first thing on our last morning. I have this problem, I ride too fast...so I usually ride alone.

Nixels little friend was prowling around as I got packed up. It was hilarious watching this cat chase Nicky around, it must have known he's allergic.

Perfect place to hang out with frien...freaks.

I made 300 miles in 5 hours, riding some of my favorite roads. It was quite a trip home..road construction where I'd ride the ditch to get to the front of the line, saw a nasty fatal..truck crossed the center line and obliterated something in it's path. Always an adventure...

Until the next one, TAT west from Utah in a few weeks.

Edit:

Lyrics used are by Angels and Airwaves, song is Young London.

Rob and I have the same problem: no one will ride with us. Rob, because he's too fast. Me, because I'm too slow! I really do like to take it all in.

About 100 yards past that stop, I pulled Benjava and Nixels over again to get the granite on the other side of the road--and the climbers on it.

I could have explored another 4 days out there. I wanted to see Bodie, but that will have to wait for another trip. I couldn't just go straight home, so I had to see Hetch Hetchy--the little Yosemite Valley that was dammed and flooded in the early 20th century, over the complaints of John Muir and a bunch of others who fought so hard for the national parks. The before photos are pretty spectacular. The current views are pretty impressive too. You need to pay to get in there or use a new National Parks Pass. In one day, it has already paid for 1/2 of itself.

One waterfall still flowing in the back. Spillway in the front.

Looks like a great place to hike.

Back to White Mountains, having just come up Silver Canyon, stopping to look back at the Eastern Sierras:

Mutual XR admiration society meeting at 10,500 ft.

Top of Barcroft, with regular cars too!

You know, I think Rob likes to cultivate a miscreant persona. He's really a generous guy, a great tour guide, and keeps you laughing. He put up with my 53 mph highway pace for as long as he could stand it.
Hey I like going that speed, you actually get to see stuff!

(finally I found someone slower than me muaaahhhh)
