I'm from NFLD (45 minutes west of St. John's) and I'm familiar to what you saw. If your into RV'ing I'd highly recommend taking some time to visit NFLD and Nova Scotia and cross both provinces. Lots of great sea side camping with whales in the backgrounds, can't beat the sunsets with a captain in your hand, next to a fire, chatting with the misses and some locals.
