Emu and Ossie's 3 day Vic high country ride

My daughter had just moved to Tocumwal Vic and my wife was missing her so we thought we would vist for a week.

As I get bored easily taking the bike would relieve the boredem and my brother Ossie thought this trip was better than
milking cows so he came for the ride.

The plan was Adelaide to Tocumwal up to Bright,Mt Hotham,Dargo,Omeo,Tom Groggin cross the river and home via Corryong and Albury we only had 3 days as Ossie couldn't leave his cows and irrigation any longer

.
Up near Mt.Hotham

After a look at Danny's lookout it was time to get on to some dirt and down to Dargo

A quick look at Blue Rag as the cloud base was getting quite low.

The last 30klms to Dargo was a pea souper and couldn't wait to get to the pub.

We wheeled over to the store to fuel and met Dan and his wife.

All the stories were true this man is the most helpful bloke your ever gonna meet.

He pointed us in the right direction for a bed, food and beer and marked some good trails on the map for the next days ride.

A late start the next morning as the thick fog didn't lift until 10am.

Day2 Dargo toTalbotville,Basalt Knob Track,Riches rd,Dowey rd,Birregun rd,Dinner Plain Trk and slab it into Omeo.

This is where Ossie started getting homesick but after he chased these cows around on green

grass for a while. He was cured!

Creek crossing at Talbotville.

Brewery Crk to Basalt Knob Trk

Next time we head down this way I would pack a lot lighter and will have a go a some of those stock routes.

You need to turn up your volume for this next piece of footage.

I can only imagine what 2 of these things sounded like coming through the scrub

Ritches Rd is a logging trk with a maximum 7% grade but was a lot of fun with heaps of switchbacks.

Dan told us to head back down to the Dargo river via Downey rd he said it gets a bit steep at the end when you

drop down to the river but dont panic I've been down there with the misses on the back of the 990.

My misses shore as hell wouldn't have gone down there !!

But sure enough at the bottom was the Upper Dargo rd. and the bridge over to Birregun rd.

Up near the Dogs grave we met up with a group of fellow adv riders heading up the Dinner Plain Trk. as well

who were to come in very handy when we got into Omeo.At this stage we were planning on getting out to Tom Groggin

by dark but it was getting late and the old guys reckoned they were booked into the top pub at Omeo (mmmm Beer!!)

These sections of fillum are probley not in order

We were gettin hungry so we pulled into the Dinner Plain pub for beer and narchos.

Now there was no way we were gettin out to Groggin so looks like its the Omeo pub damm we were

looking forward to camping in the cold with no shower and no beer.

Day 3 Omeo,Tom Groggin via Buckwong crk track and Davies Plain track cross the river and bolt for home.

The previous night trying to get a room at the pub was no good without a booking but big thanks to the other

group of riders who were kind enough to give up one of their rooms for us.

Buckwong crk trk was my favorite track of the trip it had a bit of everything but you've gotta love those errosion

mounds.I tried to get some good footage following Ossie but we spooned on a new rear hoop on at Tocumwal

and that thing was throwing some serious size boondies at me which could have resulted in serious injury or DEATH!!

The turnoff to Davies Plain Track

From Buckwong Crk it was on to Davies plain hut

And on to Tom Groggin

As luck would have it I only found out after we got to the main road that the memory card was full on

the helmet cam

But we did get some footage on one of other camera's its a bit ordinary but Ill try and clean it up

and do it over.

One thing you find out with the water crossings if you stick to the sides away from where the 4x4s go

in it is a lot better going. The last 2 crossings we came too we probley could have ridden across but never

having had to dewater one of these things and being to lazy to unload some of the gear and hump it across

we decided to help each other get them to the other side.

I must admit the Murray crossing the water was flowing pretty quick and was hard enough just walking it without

going ass up . OK I'm making up excuses we are PUSSY'S !!!!

From Tom Groggin it was up the slab and back to Tocumwall.

Ossie did a total of 2800kms I only managed 1200kms as I stayed on a few more days at Toc

before heading home with my wife and the bike on the back of the ute.

Well that ride is on my bucket list during retirement Emu, will talk to you about it at the Classic. Poor Pops, he has been ordered off dirt bikes by his doctor but if he sees this, especially the 'loud' bits, he'll ignore the medical advice and get himself a bike like yours, he loves them.

Good reading/watching - thanks.
