Question The Official "Don't Fall Rally" Planning Thread

It's getting to be that time of year again. The leaves are falling. Cool breezes from the first cold front of the year are blowing. We're riding with a few extra layers...

Um... Maybe not. But it will be soon! Let's start throwing ideas around for the 2010 DNF Rally

Things we need to consider at this point are the date and location.

I'll go first: November 5-7 at Cypress Creek Campground, the same place as last year.

Next...

Sounds good to me.

What can we do to help you with the planning? I was not wanting to step up first with it b/c I just don't have the free time this year as I did last year. Really didn't want to 1/4 ass it. Was ok with 1/2 assing it last year, but I have my standards.

Park rangers with bad attitudes... and escape routes

Oh, and can we have a night ride?

Woohoo!! My random thoughts...
  • I remember there being other rallies in the neighboring states... Wanted to see if we are overlapping any of those dates.
  • Guess we need to get DeSotoNoLogin to check schedule at Shelby and get us permission to ride the tank trails and stuff again.
  • I no longer have easy access to the T-shirt printer, so I may have to find another outlet.
  • Anyone know the hunting schedule?
  • Should we get someone to go talk to rangers AGAIN to verify that we can camp in the open area and all of the other things that Ranger Danger told DeSotoTicketO that we were not supposed to do?

My one, random thought:

There was a guy at the pirate rally in Pamama City that was doing burnouts on a Harley until the tire blew up. Can we get him? I think his name was Billy something or another.

I do have some reservations about the campsite with regards to the law enforcement situation. I don't however know of another area in the state that has as good of a road/trail network. Personally, I could see this being a roaming event, but we'd need to do some serious scouting in the next few weeks.

Is anybody familiar with the Holly Springs NF? It's a pretty good ways from everybody, but would provide a change of scenery. The Tombigbee NF is just too small, Bienville is in the Jackson crew's backyard. Homochitto is great, but camping with any facilities is limited to horses (unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible).

In order to keep the size manageable, I'm fond of the camping only locations. Once you add cabins and nearby hotels, lots of folks just show up to drink and eat, and while I like to do both, the main purpose of this thing is to ride!

I was researching some state park stuff. From the MSDWFP rules and regs page. Looks like we can't stay there either...

Kevin and I will get all camo'ed up so we can't be seen.

FWIW, Desotosoontobeadaddyo may have a more pressing issue in November than this rally.

Hey, where'd you go?

Desoto is a great place for this event. Remember, all we need is one boat in our possession, and that could be a canoe or kayak. That way we will have a reason for camping at the boat launch area. Only thing is, we might all better have fishing licenses.

Desotoroto, you are hereby exonerated from this event, in the event that you have parental duty to uphold. Congrats again.

You have ridden in the Holly Springs area.

While it may not be horrible, it may not be what you want either... YMMV...

Is there any reason why a Mississippi rally couldn't be in another State?

You might want to put the crack pipe down for a lil while.

So it seems like everybody who has chimed in so far (tap tap tap... is this thing on?) likes the Desoto NF and Camp Shelby. Fine by me. I enjoyed the place last year. I did the "Big Bike" ride, which was great, but I can't wait to tackle the area on the DRZ!

What about the date? I don't see any conflicts in either the "Southeast," or "upcoming," or "annual rallies." Anybody have any immediate objections to Nov 5-7?
