Bridle Track

Sorry to wheel this one out again, but we're heading up Hill End way this weekend.
Has anyone been there of late? Have they shifted that boulder off the road?
cheers

I rode it 4 weeks ago on my own no dramas as such, little squeeze between the big rocks that must have rolled themsleves into place near the gate

Take care crossing the river

Because there are no 4wds there is nothing to knock the moss off the weir. If it is above the footpegs it is very marginal. I would suggest going around since it is officially closed.

That's most likley just a little seismic activity, eh?
If we cant squeeze the 990's through the gap I guess it's a deal breaker.

Nah you will be fine mate, I had all the fruit on my Tenere it was loaded to the hilt and got through

As far as the causeways go mate there are four wheel drives able to access both ends of the bluff, the crossing was fine and there were people camped everywhere. Off course if its flowing hard yeah be careful but it wasn’t any slipperier than it has ever been in the 20 years I have been riding it

Looking for Info on best ride route to Hill End

Looking at doing a ride from Windsor (Sydney) via Capertee and Sofal to Hill End (for the night) and then back via the Bridle Trail. Has anyone done this ride before? As I am looking for the best route to take. Do not have a GPS at this point. I have also heard that the Bridle Trail is closed, are bikes able to get through or is it a no go. If a no go what would be the best route back without back tracking to much and that involves a bit of dirt, trail or road.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Seek and the shall find... Hill End - the best worst kept ADV ridin' secret in NSW

If you press the search this forum button at the top right hand corner of the Oz forum contents page... and type Bridle Track into the search window, then press ENTER.

Up will pop a page of threads from the Oz archive... and from about halfway down to the bottom, is more than a dozen assorted threads about the Hill End/Sofala/Sunny Corner/Capertee/Bridle Track area and heaps of suggestions how to get there from north east south and west.

Mate,

Go Lithgow, Sunny Corner, Palmer's Oaky, Upper Turon, Sofala, Hill End.

The Publican said that the Bridal Track is open for bikes, caution at the washouts.

Cheers,
Stack

A bit more detail for you:
Windsor to Lower Portland via Wilberforce and Sackville.
Lower Portland to Colo Heights (fuel) via Wheelbarrow ridge (dirt)
Colo Heights to Mountain Lagoon via Comleroy Road and Mt Lagoon fire trail (dirt, recently graded)
Mt Lagoon to Bilpin(fuel), quiet bitumen road.
(Bilpin to Mt Wilson to Bells Line of Road via Bowens Creek and Mt Irvine if you are keen)
Bells Line to Bell and Clarence, busy road, beware brave police officers hiding in bushes.
Turn off at Zig Zag railway for dirt trails all the way to Cullen Bullen. Some navigation required.
Castlereagh Hwy to Capertee, busy road, patrolled.
Turn left just past Capertee at Turon Gates. Follow Turon River to Palmer's Oakey.
Palmer's Oakey to Upper Turon to Sofala (dirt, I cannot confirm this bit)
main road to Hill End, quiet. Pub very good.
next day: bridle track to Bathurst. Main road to Oberon(fuel), back to Sydney via fire trails at Mt Bindo or Jenolan State Forest and Megalong / Kanimbla back to Mt Victoria.
For the super-keen do it on last weekend of August and call in at TTT, home via Wombeyan Caves rd / Mittagong.
I have done all this and a lot more on DRZ400 and BMW HP2 in recent years. Didn't need GPS.
