If a no go what would be the best route back without back tracking to much and that involves a bit of dirt, trail or road.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.
As you have outlined it here is an easy one day ride i have done on my pig a few times prior to the rockfall, only dirt is the last few kays into hill end and then the bridle trail back to the outskirts of bathurst. If like myself you are a relative newcomer to dirt roads it is a good day out. However the route as outlined by TravelDoc sounds the full packet and certainly an overnighter probably best done with another rider especially the first time. Re the bridle trail, still mixed reports as to how passable it is of late, be good to hear a report back as to it's state of play.

Thanks for the information guys. It has all been helpfull. We will probably look at going to Capertee and then on to Sofala through Turon Gates then on to Hill End. From Hill End I have been told that the Bridle Track is passable by Bike, so hopefully we will be able to ride it on the way back. I will let you know how we go.

Cheers.

This is as of 3 weeks ago, coming from the southern (Bathurst) end:
End of the line just short of Monaghans Bluff.

Everything was soggy and dripping by the time we got there, quite a bit of rain beforehand.
Spacing of rocks is way too narrow to get a loaded V-Strom through/ under/ over.
And the rocks extend well to the left and right of that barrier (on the lower side into some very boggy/ deep muddy clay stuff near the riverbank, yes, I walked it)

A lightweight 250 or even DR650, as long as there are a few mates along to help eachother, (and with a small daypack rather than panniers and topboxes) wouldn't be a problem.

Coming from the south, we've had enough fun to get the barges through this one, in order to even get to the above spot.
