Found It

Found It

It was on Shinns Rd between Buzzard Hill Rd and Glassworks Rd

You will notice the area before you ever see the sign, the trees are just different. Itís a sudden start and a sudden stop, a special pine tree plantation. The pines are very tall and as straight as a rail. The area was obviously once cleared flat (or burned) and re-forested. The ďDARĒ stands for Daughters of American RevolutionÖ the Penny Pines (from what Iíve found) is a special reforestation program. Basically itís a penny per seed to reforest an area, but that was back in the 40ís when it started. I didnít have much luck finding the NJ chapters, so I can only assume itís the same as every other states.

There was a huge fire that wiped out quite a bit of the pines in the early 60ís, maybe this is from after that ??

New Tag

This one is in the same state forest itís at a bend and an intersection.
I found the ruins by mistake, I just happened to stop there for some water.
As I turned around there it was staring at me, all mossy and stuff.

NEW TAG
I only found one bit of history on this, It is called Van Note Camp, the ruins of an old sawmill near Whiting.

Here is the money shot, you can see my bike in the background at the intersection on the road

my helmet is on the foundation, and I'm in the road

from what I found out a big steam engine sat on these very footings

Nice find, I actually found a few site relating to NJ DAR but it gave almost no info, I guess the National Dar was the way to go. I couldn't find anything at all for Penny Pines Plantations relating to NJ, even though I know there is more then one location?????

If you found that while looking you are too far south
correct forest, wrong bend, wrong works
