2010 GS Pinking
Got my new ride about a week ago, it's a 30year Aniv. and have done about 300km since brand new. I have owned a 2008 & 2009 GS's and have been very happy with the two previous bikes. The new bike have from the first km been pinking from pull away, very pronounced .Has any one else experienced this? It could be my imagination, but I could swear it is not nearly as smooth as my last GS. Any thoughts on why?

Search Mototune and go ride the shit out of it for a couple hundered miles.
When new the boxer is as tight as a Nun's nether regions. A little more rpm off the lights will also reduce the ping somewhat. If it's hot out it will make the symptoms worse. ride it like you rent it drcool

An Option
First I would ask your BMW dealer to scope/computer it...check timing and mixture..
They are running lean to make EPA and Al happy..my '07 GSA which I only ride off road would ping [pink?] or rattle from a stop with a load, on a hot day and especially up a grade.... I just installed a Booster Plug [see vendors section or google] and for the first time ever: #1 No pinging inspite of one hell of a lot of off road, uphill, slow pulls in 94 degree heat at 8,670 feet [altitude seems to make my bike run hotter; less dense air for cooling?]...my average for 76 miles of up and down over summits was 12mph...almost all 1st gear.. #2 Very importantly, for the first time I have a smooth low speed throttle control..no jerking up and down...very sweet! I also run all Redline synthetics in engine/trans/FD...if it is pinging it has hot spots and needs all the help it can get.. Just my .02 cents..
