Welcome cberard, looks like you're getting close with the pic posting.

Camped at the Bad Medicine Campground a few years ago. I love that area.

We ran into this little fellar while riding back down from the big cedar grove.

My Winter Project

This winter's garage project is a KLR facelift.

Horrible picture but you get the idea. I never did like the stock fairing/headlight setup on the gen1 KLR 650s so I finally decided to fix it. I picked up a Baja Designs headlight fixture, tossed the rubber mounting straps and installed it using Fly Racing fork tube brackets. The stock turn signals are also mounted to these brackets.

Another problem with stock headlights (not just with KLRs) is the voltage drop between the battery and the headlight socket through the really thin wires in the stock harness. I did this same mod on my Connie a few years ago and gained more than 1 volt at the headlight under load.

The three wires at the top connect to the stock headlight socket and the wires below go to 12 gauge wires connected directly to the battery via a 20A fuse and the frame. The two boxes bolted to the sides of the fixture are 40A marine grade relays.

Another advantage to doing away the frame mounted fairing is that now I have more options for windscreens.

Here is a National Cycle Deflector screen that was given to me. It needs a little cleaning up but I’m sure it’s going to be great for road trips. It can be removed in a about minute too.

Not specific to the KLR: I decided to try one of these eBay bicycle headlights as a helmet light for my off-road helmet.

While I think the claim of 1800 lumens by the ebay seller is exaggerated, it’s still a pretty decent light for $40. It uses a Cree XM-L T6 LED chip and comes with a 6400mAH 8.4V Li-Ion battery pack and charger.

Your winter project looks good. I would be worried to pull next to you with your helmet light on and you would look over and that would be lights out for me where did the road go? lol
