I thought I wanted to go for a ride Sat. and it sure sounded like good idea a few weeks ago but my motorcycles don't seem to agree with me. My 650 is in the shop and the 200 needs to go to the shop before I ride it anymore.

Doing Slate, Moon, Latuer all sound good, no matter which ones you chose to ride I'm sure you will be a blast.

I just got back from a Magrueder/Lolo Motorway loop which was a lot of fun although wet and cold. There was a tiny bit of snow along Lolo in one place and there was plenty of fresh snow up on the mountain tops. Winter is on the way.

I'll be up Latour Creek on Saturday morning... getting firewood. I'll wave if I see you - and I will try not to drop a tree on you. If you want directions to that ridge trail in the video, let me know.

You should ride up to Twin Crags and hike into Mirror lake if you are in the area and have time. It should be easily doable on a big bike (I've had a car up there). The hike is less than a mile and well worth it. I was just telling Kootenai Rider that I have hiked in there 4 times and saw a moose every time and a bear once. Stunning scenery. I'll post directions from Latour Creek Rd. if anyone is interested.

I am totally unfamiliar with that area. Could you post directions for a dolt like me from Spokane? Sounds like just the type of hike I like doing.

Sure!
Take the Cataldo Exit (#40) and head south. Follow this road straight for 9.7 miles. (DON'T follow the pavement where Dudley Rd turns right at about mile 2.2) About a mile past the Lost Moose Campground, turn left at the sign for Twin Crags/Latour Peak (9.7 miles from I-90). Follow the main road until you come through an active logging operation. Turn left at the small fire fighting trailer and keep going up the hill through the logging site. The trickiest turn to find will be a right turn just near the end of the loggers. It used to be the main way, now the logging has made it appear less traveled. (When I was there last weekend, a downed tree was almost blocking it.) The map shows it where Boise Creek rd splits from Boise Creek rd. (??) If you get disoriented, just remember to always go uphill. You will follow this road until it basically ends at the sign for the Mirror Lake hiking trail. Go straight for the hiking trail, left for the lookout tower, or right up the small cliff to the rocky ridge "trail" that I posted the video of. I'd also hike over to Latour Peak from the lookout tower (It might be too rough of a ride for a self-proclaimed "old fart" to ride up the face. There is a rock garden at the bottom of that trail.)
Good luck!

Edit: If you are really feeling adventurous, you can follow that road all the way down the other side of the mountain into Pine Creek/Pinehurst. Turn right at the base of Latour Peak and the first left after that. There are a bunch of abandoned mines to explore along the way.

hey ya'll, my pops wants to rent quads on Friday while I am visiting, and just going up Canfield. Any recommendations for that? Is there anything more than roads available to quads up there within 2-4 hours reach?

cheers,
Andy

Take I-90 east to exit 54 (Big Creek) and head south. It goes all the way to Lake Elsie. It is quad heaven up there with stunning views.

Or did you mean 2-4 hours on quads starting at Canfield?

Here is Schweitzer's webcam from this morning. I can't believe the prime of the season is already over.

Be sure to leave the boys club in the Hood and take Mustang Shelly with you to ride the loop, she'll love it.

I'm not ready for winter but it comes every year.
