And the next update ...

--- Let it be known if you want to swap / re-arrange groups ---

Group / Permit 1 - DonQx Style

(Has been booked by Andreas 'DonQx', in & out via Clear Hill Road, pace cruisy=slowish):
  1. DonQx (KLR400, will be at Mt F camp ground for Fri Niter ~6.30 pm)
  2. Andy-Gadget (DL650 sans side-car)
  3. Paul 'IVA BIGGIN'
  4. [-slot available-]
  5. [-slot available-]
  6. [-slot available-]
Group / Permit 2 - Corne 'katoong'
(Corne ... would you mind trying to book permit #2? ... also decide which way you want to go in/out ... and an indication of your pace ... presume you're a bit more into the dirt than me, judging by some of your pics ... see you Thurs lunchtime :-) ... )
  1. Corne 'katoong' (1200GS)
  2. Peter 'THE BONE SHAKER' (coming down from up North on Fri, gravel roads through the centre)
  3. THE BONE SHAKER's mate Chris (hobart adv'er)
  4. THE BONE SHAKER's mate Brian Hughes from Shearwater motorcycles
  5. [-slot available-]
  6. [-slot available-]
Maybe's:
  1. The re-invented 'Tee3' (Black WeeStrom) will be on the big island just before, return weather dependend
  2. NickiGS (one of the parallel twin BMWs)
  3. Dirt Diver (similar)
  4. IVA BIGGIN's son
All meet latest Sat 9/10 9.00 am sharp outside Mt Field NP visitor centre.

The deal on the permits is ...
  • max 6 vehicles per group
  • max 12 vehicles allowed in per day (= 2 permits of 6, 3 permits of 4, or whatever other possible combo)
  • everyone needs to provide bike rego & licence details
  • bikes free of mud
  • $100 key deposit
  • More info here ... http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/index.aspx?base=2522
The Saw Back Track is a 1st class heavy duty deeply rutted wet muddy slippery challenge through beautiful rainforest. ... not for me ... haven't got aggressive knobblies and could be too much work ;-)

I'll go in & out via Clear Hill Road.

Also just to be clear about a few basics:
  1. we're doing this as a bunch of peers, there's no leader as such with responsibility for anyone else
  2. it is your responsibility to inform yourself about any possible risks and take precautions
  3. if you have any questions / concerns ... posting them here and getting everyone's take on them is probably a good way to go
  4. Adamsfield is a remote area, mobile phone reception may be limited or non-existent, weather can change drastically & quickly, tracks may be blocked, ...
  5. blah di blah di blah ... hope it makes sense to all .. commonsense really, isn't it?

Thumb Very nice place...

Spent 2007 to 2009 in Tassie...There is probably some the best riding to be done around Tassie.. Will have to get back down there sometime soon and enjoy some of that beautiful part of the world.. Bit cool at the moment.
Enjoy guys.
Cheers,
Johnnie

Just back from the wild NW.

Off-line for 2 weeks & didn't talk to anyone for nearly 11 days :-)

I am a non starter again, we are now in on the 8th, and even with a red eye flight I wont be home before Saturday afternoon, and I don't
have a bike ready to go.
Thanks for all the organizing Andreas.

I'm looking forward to Adamsfield! However we will take the 'easy' route into Adamsfield... Saw Back track will be hard even for a smaller dirt bike i think ;-)

ps. My advice - Adventure riding has almost nothing to do with the type or size of bike... it's 50% confidence, 40% heart and 10% skill... almost any bike can do what we ask of it... Just go at your own pace and keep trying! I recon it is safer to ride up to Adamsfield than commuting over the Tasman bridge everyday ;-)

Camping at Adamsfield, means bringing every thing with you including food and water. Plus taking your rubbish home with you.
Very nice spot to pitch a tent. With all mod cons.

Last time there was lush grass to camp on.

Plenty room for tents
