Crater Lake, Oregon

Kurt W had a great idea to ride the big bikes to Crater Lake as it was 'motorcycles-get-in-free-weekend' and it should be cooler up there than it is here in the Bend area.

We both wanted to get an early start and I left my place just as the sun broke.

As I was on the parkway headed to the gas stop/meeting spot, I thought that KMA should’ve come along with us.

And there he was on the Vee.

Nice surprise.

This thing though . . . more about that later.

Jim and I swapped bikes which was fun, never ridden a VStrom before. Now I get it, it’s a nice bike.

Cruised some road to Davis Lake. It was great to not even be a part of the route finding at all, just following.

Jim turned around at the Crescent Cut off. Kurt and I got on 97 to fuel in Chemult then on into the park.

Spectacular - yes?

Then we went to the lodge and Kurt got this bowl with toe (to be added later ).

I had a sandwich in the tank bag.

Then we rode around the lake.

Kurt gave me signals off his extremely accurate Tuono at 55, 60 & 70 mph and the 950 was no more than 2 mph over, not the 10% over as I'd been told. Now I know why I have a speeding ticket in my wallet.

Headed towards home.

Beautiful day. Stopped to arrange another bike swap.

These guys roared by.

Yeah ! Party on !!

And then I got to ride my first sport bike and it blew my mind and I should never have one of those for sure.

The End.

Fantastic - I fell in love with Oregon this spring. Good to see more of it, and make a not of places I want to check out in person. Thanks!

Thanks for the positives - haven't done much road riding and the 950, while a very competent street machine, was begging to take the dirt route.

Next time.

Great RR and pics!

The last time I was there I stopped to pay the admission fee and was trying to convince the dude that $20 for a 14 day pass was not what I wanted. I was just 2 people on a motorcycle and would be riding straight through. A few hours at the most. I wanted a discount. I mean their price was the same for an RV full of people for 14 days as for a motorcycle for a couple of hours.
Anyway, the whole time we were discussing the price, a really huge, ugly beetle of some kind was slowly crawling down the side of the building toward him. I mean this thing was BIG AND UGLY!! Like 6" long!
So I decides that if he gave me a break, I would give him one and tell him about the monster bug that was now getting very close to his stubborn head. He never did. I had to pay full price.
He gave me a funny look when I said "I hope you two have a great day together" as I left.

It was nice meeting you at WestFest.
