Thanks Craig - great field test. How many Km's are you getting from a full fill (front and rear). Approx 41 - 42 lt?

I haven't tested too many full to empty. About 500ish most of the time. I one time did run out was a day of riding into a headwind the whole time that was about 480ks luckily for me it was right in front of a petrol station.

Some if fuel that has gone into them from time to time has smelt rather odd. Who knows what it was. They have had there fair share of 80 octane in them also.

BTW the big Kato runs fine on it without pulling the wire. Even at 4655m! Thank goodness for CV carbs.

One tip I would have for those in wetter climates. Put some tube on the caps facing downwards. The caps can let water into the tanks otherwise.

Unfortunately those tanks take about 1500 other things besides consideration.

At Bend I saw Deadly's tanks on their new home/bike. Quite a good looking set-up.

Hey Pete,

How are things going with the tanks going? I had to leave my 950 in Russia (nothing to do with the tanks), so am onto a 990 in the US now.

For anyone considering them - they are great. I did 15000ks odd them from London to a small town called Svobodny. The bike died but the tanks were still in tip top condition. The trip included in places like Mongolia and the Pamirs.

Burnt the clutch out in the end. I think this was because it was making poor oil pressure. I think this was because of a stuffed oil bypass spring. In the end it was going to cost a bit to transport and repair so I decided to leave it their and replace it with a new(ish) 990. Might get another set of tanks if I eventually transport it back to Aus (if I can manage to work through our tedious export regs, it took me all 15 mins to import it into the US from Canada). Who knows!

US is pretty cruisy compared to Russia a lot to see. I miss Russia though and really want to go back. I actually wouldn't mind working their for a season. Nice People. All going well it is Europe next year and then Africa.

Wouldn't replacing a burnt clutch and weak bypass spring be cheaper and quicker than another bike ?

just curious what your thought process was in arriving at the conclusion ?
