Do I need an oil cooler?

Hey everyone. I have a '81 R100 fitted with an RS fairing. I do not have an oil cooler but do have a larger oil pan. Should I get an oil cooler? I can probably get one at a good price. But if I really dont need it I cant be bothered. Would like to have no limitations as to where I should ride my bike though. planning on going through deserts and the like.

Thoughts?

Does that mean slow going off road slogging it through sand or just paved roads through a desert? Is it a high compression engine generating a lot of heat?

Do get the tool kit but don't you dare throw any of it away! Complete Airhead tool kits are getting to be very valuable and I find the screw driver and the pliers quite useful.

I'd either stash it for future use/sale/trade or remove the tools from the tool roll (Those are unobtanium!) , transfer them into an after-market tool roll and then add a few non-factory tools to bulk it up.

For $20 thats a real score!

No, you don't NEED the cooler...

...but fab it up anyway. You know you want to. It'll perform so well that you will want to talk about it to anyone who will listen. You will be rebuffed by all, save the geek squad herein.

Stashed away somewhere, I have the original BMW shop towel-- white, with "BMW" woven into it. Came with the bike, never used. Now if I can just remember where I stashed it...

That towel

It's in that box in the garage with all the logo golf towels you got in every tournament you ever played. And that's the rag your wife chose to refinish that glider with.

hey looks like I might have to pay about $70 for the toolkit. How much would you guys pay for it? Is it still worth it? If I had the money id still get it, but Im a bit short on cash so I will have to budget but I dont want to regret not getting it a few years down the line type of thing.

Gee...

If you don't have a tool kit for your Airhead, I'd say buy it. It's a nice one. OTOH, if you're buying it to stash away, why bother. It's not made out of diamonds....

Either way you might well regret not buying it in a few years but you'll have to make your own decision.
