Thanks for the tip but I don't need to book a tour, just meet fellow riders...

yes no problem i gathered that

if you go to the adv meet on the 8th-10th july which only costs about £60 including food and camping you will meet about 60 swiss & German adv riders all in one weekend

Good call. I'll have a look, might be able to duck out for a couple of hours but that weekend I've got in-laws on visit so it'll be tough to justify :(

Cheers!

I'm headed to Montreux in the beginning of June for a couple of days. Any suggestions as to whether/where it is possible to rent a bike while I'm there?

Thanks!

I'm not really sure as I've never had to rent a motorcycle but a quick google search should turn up something, although it'll most probably be in french.

The french word for rent is 'location' or 'louer' (to rent)

KTM guys near Geneva rent out bikes:
http://www.orange-adventures.ch/English/Start.html

Alocbike have a V-MAX
http://www.aloc-bike.ch/motos/

Honda GDK in Gland (half way btn Geneva and Lausanne) also has a few bikes to rent
http://www.gdkmotos.ch/fr/liste-location-moto.html

Good luck!

Another Swiss rider here! Living in Valais - just across the Lake and over some mountains, there you are!
A friend of mine was living in St-Cergue until a few months ago, so I've been there several times. Also love the jura, although i'm there not very often. It's a pretty long way to get there and we have the real high passes just round the corner... (and side roads that not any dutch caravon knows)

In Switzerland, renting motos is rather expensive...

I can recommend Inter-Motos (above Lausanne) they rent Kawas and Truimphs, here's a list of what they've got for rent:

If you call, ask for Jürg.. he's a great guy..

If you find something, let me know. I'm looking for them too.

The closest thing to riding on gravel legal would be in the Jura Mountains. Most of the roads are not technically legal, but it's more or less accepted if it's not on family sundays. East of Soulce (SW of Delémont) are a few gravel roads that are legal to ride (at least there's no sign).
Maybe you could check out the Vosges Mountains, to the north-west of Basel in France. I heard there are some good (and legal) gravel roads, but I have no first-hand experience.

I'm from Basel and we could meet up for a ride in the Jura Mountains on Sunday. I know some nice back roads there I could show you. We could meet up in Neuchâtel if you're interested.

Also in Basel

I'm also here in Basel, though originally from sunny California... would love to meet up with some other local inmates...

a buddy of mine and I have been 'exploring' the French logging roads/trails along the border with CH north of Jura and further north in the Vosges.

Looking to get into the Italian tracks this summer but am open to exploring anywhere asphalt hasn't yet been applied!

be careful when riding in the vosges area as its a protected national park area and 99% of any trail that goes thru the area is a big no no for vehicles, if it runs thru the forests then also pretty much forget it. I know people that have chanced it and have been stopped by forestry officials and the Gendarmarie and had big fines.

please check your routes carefully or you might have a surprise, i have found loads of routes in the vosges but when going to ride them its all forestry or fire tracks so are off limits.

Shame as they looked great.

I am near the SBB so if anyone fancies a beer then let me know and we can discuss some trails

that's good to know...

I'd be up for grabbing a beer next Wed or Thurs after work (08.06 or 09.06) to discuss trails and riding locations. Would that work for you guys?

Let me know. I would suggest Noohn unless someone strongly objects :)
