The Lodge has the strangest (and cool) business model I've ever seen.

You just leave them "whatever" you feel it was worth to stay there. I bailed out on my OBCDR trip yesterday from there and they really tempted me to stay. I had no money at all, wasn't even a problem, they said I could mail it to em, They take hospitality to a whole nuther level

(so yes, it would have been spectacularly expensive)

And the place is REALLY nice inside, I'm going to do the trip again and start from there I think.

Hey xymotic -
What are you doing home??

When matt saw that you bailed in Seneca, he said...

"Rut Rogh!"
Make Big RUTS your favorite!

We loved the Big Creek campground, but it's good to know that the Lodge people are so nice and friendly.

The short story is that I ran out of money, and realized I was 500 miles from home and had $40 to my name. So I'll take your month of stupid times 2, and Raise you with that.

The longer story is that I HATE my Garmin, It was routing me on crap and I just wasn't having fun. I got sick and puked a couple times, got no sleep and was just in a generally foul mood. I was pretty much done with motorcycling... til I got to Seneca and that was one of the best days ever, so I'll be back.

RR will be here Maybe, if I ever get around to it

Some people like the Bearcat Lodge, some people don't.

We didn't stay there so I don't care either way.

I have a bunch of photos to edit, so please don't turn my ride report into a hotel review while I'm not looking...

(That's what Trip Advisor is for!)

Thanks

Here are some sheep we saw on Engineer Pass in colorado.
They were butting heads at first, but now they're friends.

Day 8 continued...

All three of us vaguely remembered seeing a big river crossing in various OBCDR ride reports.
We asked each other, “Is this it?”

Malheur River. That sounds familiar...
(Why do assholes always shoot up the signs?)

Matt and I decided to go first so I could shoot some video of Trayce.

Gravitycheck made it look easy - yay, Trayce!

Since they had wet feet anyway (from the splashing), the guys wanted to stop and hang out by the river.

It was a bathing/laundry/goof off opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

We started off just rinsing our gear in the water,
but when Trayce broke out the Herbal Essences “Body Envy” volumizing shampoo,
we were super stoked.

That guy really knows how to pamper himself on a camping trip.

We all washed our faces and our sweaty bald heads.

Pretty soon there was shit strewn everywhere...

In either color, the KTM 9x0 makes a great drying rack.

Aren’t they cute together?

Hahaha! Damn, you went north, I was going south, I was thinking I was clearly on the wrong trails because I didn't have a single water crossing and I thought there were like dozens. NOTHING looked familiar and then I got to that spot and recognized it fron Lion BR's great RR. Did you have smaller creek crossings further south?

I also could not resist the temptation to sit a spell, it is without a doubt the nicest campsite I've ever seen. It blew my mind that on a Saturday on Labor Day Weekend I had the place to myself.

Anyway, I'm waiting with bated breath to see your pics & hear your comments about the northern part.

Did you cross the Malhuer Twice? There's another crossing at Malhuer ford Which I thought you would have crossed before you got to this point.

Hey Guys,
Sorry if I over-reacted to the Hotel reviews. I just didn't want a classic ADV trainwreck.
Nonsense, I can handle. The other stuff, I cannot.
(not that either xymo or hanksmybuddy were out of line - this was just preemptive paranoia on my part)

Thanks for understanding

Hi xymotic - I'll get to you tomorrow...
just hang tight for a bit.

It's Nixels and his sensitive eyes I'm worried about right now...

LittleWan - loving the ride report... keep it up! you're doing awesome on the pics, narration, everything! i've been waiting for you two to get out on the new(er) orange(ish) beast ever since you got it. looks like you had a great time.

a few random comments that i figured i'd compile into one post to minimize the clutter....

Norman the Delorman, rules!

It just takes some time to get to know him
i did the same thing you guys did with the PN-60... purchased it, pre-loaded all the maps i needed, thought i was all set-up, and then left on a trip, only to have it stop routing for me completely on day two. unlike you guys i didn't have a laptop with me, so i was stuck with what i had. the next three days were route-less, having to zoom in and out all the time to see where i was and make sure i was going in the right direction.

one thing i found... if you on-the-fly make a route and it fails... delete it. leaving it on the device can corrupt any means of routing again. and update your firmware before leaving on a long trip.

This is the same crappy $150 point and shoot (canon Power Shot A560) that I used on the TAT last year
(and it’s been to Mexico/Baja at least 3 times).
I kinda wanted a dustproof, waterproof, crushproof camera for this trip - but we were already over budget. Maybe next time.
i had the same thing with the lens not closing happen... and recently switched from a Canon SD870 to the Lumix TS2 which i love. sure enough (always my luck...) they released a smaller version (with a feature or few less, but cheaper) a few weeks after i bought the TS2... the Lumix TS10.

the big differences between the two other than size is the lens (TS2 @ 28mm & TS10 @ 35mm) and that the TS10 doesn't record in AVCHD Lite, when the TS2 does. having used the TS2 shooting from a shooting motorcycle... i'd highly recommend either the TS2 or TS10 when you do get in the market for a new camera. the power on/off time is lightning fast, and the iA (intelligent auto) mode is actually usable for almost everything. there's a bunch of adv'ers who shoot with the same camera ( geek & Dr.Rock off the top of my head )

Lovin' it

I'm home this weekend getting ready for a trip next week - First thing I do when I sit down is check this thread to see what's happening next and taking notes.

The picture below looked fine and respectable until you did this to it and then it made me about spit coffee all over my computer. It now looks like something really weird was going on. (Good Job )
