I have info for Norm if you read this in time. Cedarville to Susanville and beyond on dirt.

Have fun on your little trip, LittleWan.

My bike did that a couple of times last week on the TAT, Just stopped and fainted, tipped over all by itself. I swear I had nothing to do with it.

The title of this thread

"The Summer of Stupid"

Is the absolute best title ever!

Now back to our regular programming....

I missed the freaking Barber Ship! and Matt wouldn’t go back.

Great ride report - really enjoying it.

Bummer, you must have come right past our place in Sandpoint. Sorry we missed you. maybe next time.

Hey Guys,
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Thanks so much for stopping by...and sorry to make you wait again.
I know there are some comments that need addressing/acknowledging, but I'll do that tomorrow if that's okay...
I have to catch up on some ride reports, too!

(hi LB - yes, OMG - I want some fainting goats! they are SO CUTE! )

So, BigWan and I really enjoyed our ride.
Really enjoyed it.

Days 6, 7, and 8 of the Pacific Crest Quest.
(I keep linking to that report, I really need to read it again)

903 miles
700+ photos
3 nights of camping
4 days of no bathing
2 get offs (silly ones)
NO ATGATT hiking

a log smashed my foot

and we did this to our front rim:

It was AWESOME!
Seriously. It was so fun, neither one of us wanted to go home.

BigWan is going to try and combine our PCQ tracks from July, with our tracks from this weekend,
to come up with an updated gpx file for anyone who wants to do this section with fewer headaches.

Once I finish the CDT and the TAT parts of this report, I’ll have a brief addendum with our limited PCQ experience, sans snow.
If you are planning to do those days (6,7,8) soon, shoot me a PM and I’ll try and tell you where we ran into problems.

I know I need to get on track with the report, but, since we’ve been lacking in good riding content...
here’s a little video I shot at Gold Lake.
It’s kind of rough and bouncy, but that’s how it goes with handheld stuff.
The lighting was a bit harsh - hopefully you can see well enough.

Woo hoo! We had such good riding. sigh.

So, I’ll be back tomorrow with the start of the CDT!
Oh, and did I mention - thanks for reading?
And, thanks for your patience!

LittleWan

Okay. So, again, sorry I went all bitchcakes on yous last week.
I feel much better after some dirt therapy.

Welcome to the Summer of Stupid. I love you.

Sorry Nixels. That was mean.
Every family needs a scapegoat. I'll try and be nicer...

Also, sorry Questor, for the Nixels remark. Oops. Old habits die hard :(
I mean, for calling you “Crazy Glorp Dude.”

And, sorry acesandeights, for the “Scary Tweaker Dude” stuff. You’re just excitable. I get it.

Hi Larryboy - Thanks for bringing in the fainting goats. Love! (also, PM sent).

Hey xymo. The interwebs will ruin a ride. And, I already told you how sorry I am that I didn’t leave safety cones on the OBCDR...
But, I don't think cones can pump gas...

Hey Kurt, sorry we missed you, too. Didn't know you were there! We rode right through Sandpoint - it was beautiful, but way too fancy for the likes of us!
Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll be back to Idaho. We missed all the good stuff the first time through.
We’ve been using the hell out of our Black Dog skid plate, though!

Okay, zeroblah - here we go...

Day 13 continued...

The Canadian border.
We didn’t bring our passports (didn’t want to lose them) so this is as close as we got.

Another shot of the rocks with legs.
Matt thought maybe they’re supposed to be bison?

First chance/last chance for duty free booze.

Here we are - the start of the CDT!
Wait, it's paved??

Day 13 continued...

The weather was all over the place.
Sunny, cloudy...

threatening to dump...
We had a little rain earlier today, but nothing too bad.

We finally hit some decent (non paved) roads and didn’t really want to stop.
But, as we were going up a trail, we saw a guy on a 990. He didn’t have any luggage and just gave a little wave as we passed.

It made us wonder if there was a campground nearby.
We decided to take a look.
It was kind of early to quit (only 6pm), but the skies were still threatening rain.

We went and looked at Grave Creek, but the people camping there seemed a little sketchy.

We found another section, higher up, with 3 spots and a bathroom.
There was no one around and it was further from the river. Perfect.
And free!

There was plenty of firewood and a nice grassy spot.

The isolation creeped me out a little bit, but we had our People Spray (they sell it as bear spray, but I’m way more scared of people. And zombies).

The clouds looked like they were passing, but we used the rainfly, just in case.
We could still hear the thunder booming in the distance.

Had a nice fire.

We rode 268 miles today, but Matt reset Norm at the start of the CDT

Just as we were getting ready for bed, around 10:30, a truck pulled up near the campground.
He turned off the engine and lights and just sat there.
BigWan said it was probably just some couple getting it on in their car , but I was convinced that it was an axe murderer.
Just because we had survived Indian Lake doesn't mean that Jason wasn't there...

It was hard to fall asleep.

ki ki ki ah ah ah!

Yep, Lionsroaar will be doing the report...

I think he's still planning on it and I'll be chiming in but I have to get off my lazy butt and get my pictures sent to him so he can mix them with his.
Don't think we can come close to topping your adventures and humor but it's what we got.
Looking forward to reading the rest of yours as you were alot of the same places we were and I can wait to see how you fared 2 up.

Sorry guys, it's just the RR wasn't getting updated so I started driving around in my pickup with my scary mask on (it's got prescription lenses and I only need it for driving at night). Anyway, glad you could update the RR without me needing to get out of the truck. No offense taken by the tweaker dude stuff...well, no offense taken anymore :)

Okay redog1 and lionsroaar, let us know when you get that report up...

Day 14: 7/20/10 Eureka, MT to Glacier National Park 144 miles

Slept so hard last night, we got kind of a late start.

We could hear the trucks barreling past the campground and I was worried there would be a batch of deep base rock waiting for us.
Instead, we found fresh asphalt.
It makes me sad that we’re constantly losing roads to pavement.

Happily, there wasn’t much more for us.
Next year, it might be a different story...

I hope they never get around to this road

or this one

or this one
