While I was in the middle of this post, my computer shut itself off.

Not good. I guess I'm not the only one who's tired...
I hope the imac makes it through this...

Hey pyrate! Haha, the "eat, sleep, ride the bus" one is perfect. That's pretty much how it went.
We had talked about making stickers, but without a website, a blog, or anything to sell, it seemed silly.
So, I left mascots instead (yeah, that's not silly at all...)

Day 35: 8/10/10 Battle Mountain, NV lay day.
no miles, unless you count walking across the street to the Dollar store...

We had some things at home that needed attention.
They necessitated the use of a telephone and/or the internets.
Seeing as how our phone had proven itself useless in the Nevada desert,
we had to spend another day in Battle Mountain.

Also, BigWan needed some time to try and piece together the tracks for the TAT from Battle Mountain to Port Orford.
Changing our plans at the last minute was a little challenging, but we figured we could also wing-ding it along the way.

We had mexican for dinner. It was adequate.

Day 36: 8/11/10 Battle Mountain to Virgin Valley Campground, NV 305 miles

Nevada has a lot of two track.
Today wasn't bad. We actually had a lot of fun on this section...

I had been able to go online in Battle Mountain and get the lyrics for that chipmunk song.
Lucky Matt!
Lucky you guys!

Me, I want a huuula hoop...

Christmas, don't be laaate!

Today was a big gate day.

Look at this wonderful handle/closer thingy! Freaking dreamy...
I love this kind - so well designed and easy to use.
It was like Christmas!

I think this is Kelly Creek.

Ye Olde Homestead.

More work today.

And now I've wasted 2x the time on this one post...
(Yes, I do write/save it offline. I have the text in "pages (mac WP)", with photolinks. But I do all the fiddling and editing in the "reply to thread" box)

Gah.
Have a good one, you guys.

It is only 53 Days 11 Hours 34 Minutes Till Christmas. But who's counting anyway

ALAN,ALAN!!! I think I peed a little on that one! You are doing a great job on this report, I'm with you guys to the end and hopefully many more RR's.

WOXOF - ugh, don't remind me. I love Elf and that chipmunks song, but I actually dread xmas.

Hi cdndog! well, it wasn't my goal to make you FFs wet your pants...but I'll take it. Welcome!

Day 36 continued...

Here’s the “hugh” [sic] cottonwood tree, mentioned in the TAT rollcharts.

What a weird place for a fiber optic cable...

Old well?

Welcome! Do come in...

Stove.

Other stove.

Kitchen sink.

Bedroom.

Dinner, anyone?
Right about the time I took this photo, I realized that this would be the perfect place to pick up Hantavirus.

Bits of pretty stamped and decorated metal, patching holes.

Okay, break time is over.

Back on the trail..

Day 36 continued...

This post is all gates and roads...

Gate.

Gate.

Some cows...

Another gate.

And then, roads.

Oh, you’re probably wondering where we are.
Time for a map.
We left Battle Mountain this morning and now we’re on our way to Coyote Mountain.

Clears that right up, eh?

This song always gets stuck in my head...

And this one, of course.

Coyote Mountain.

This is another spot that I had in mind for an ADV mascot.

There’s nothing around.

And the only people who come up here seem to be on the TAT.

I left a drop of orange crush this time.

We stacked up some rocks (it was windy up there!)

and left the little guy at the base.

We left matt’s lucky feather, too. Huge mistake.

After we got home, I saw this post:

So, I dunno.

I’m just happy that it was found.

BigWan spotted the cutest little mouse walking around.
It was like a grey cotton ball with a tail.
I followed it until it ran into these rocks.
You can’t see his face, but this shows you how small he was.
That almond is as big as its head!

Awww!

There aren’t a lot of buildings out here, so they really stand out.

Today was another one of those days where, except for a few bits of pavement when we go into town to get fuel, we were in the dirt the whole time.

There's not a lot to do except take photos and talk.

I lost count of how many gates there were today (didn't take photos of all of them, even if it feels like it to you guys )...

This section was so pretty...

The picture of the mouse reminded me of my favorite book when I was a small child. It was called "Hurry up Slow Poke". It was about a mouse family walking to grandma's. Slow poke Simon wasn't in much of a hurry and liked to stop and enjoy the flowers along the way. I think it was a sign of things to come for me.

We passed thru this section in the begining of Sept and we both agreed it was the best part of the trail.

The rugged beauty of the land coupled with the remoteness is just breathtaking..

Thanks for the report.

Not to many days to go I'm guna have to find another thread to watch. !! Might have to do Re Runs
A question for EitherWan How do you find the Wolfman Expedition panniers. You've certainly given them a good workout. Also, when you were using the TAT rollcharts what rollchart holder did you use.
Thanks Phil

Hey Phil,
just real quick - we got the bags here. A smokin' deal!
Oops, must have read that wrong...
Not where, how...
Love them. We tested them out even more, later on Day 36.

I think BigWan is going to do a gear review at the end of the report.

Gotta go vote, and then I'll be back...

Hey ladybug!
I'm not very good at stopping to smell the roses, but I love me some furry animals.
favorite photo subjects:
cute animals, dirt roads, clouds.

haha, but I guess you guys already know that...

Hi big-t! Glad you like this section - I was trying to cut down on the number of photos, but now that I know that someone else appreciates them...I’ll throw a few back in.

Phil
- we’ll have to check on the roll chart holder, but it’s a cheapie. Something from cycle gear. Oh, Matt says it’s an MSR countdown.
You’re going to want to tape around the edges to keep the rain out...
(doing the TAT west, you will get rain)

Amen.

More gates...

Look at all that green stuff!

I was really excited to have some color. Usually, it's a little more monochromatic out here.

It wasn't even lunchtime, but BigWan kept humming this song...

Day 36 continued...

Just outside of McDermitt, we ran out of gas. Not a big deal.

We still had gas in the 2 into 1 auxiliary tank, but it’s a pain in the ass to refill. We keep 30 oz. of gas in an MSR bottle, just in case.
Thirty ounces sounds like a lot, but it only gave us...wait for it... 8 minutes of riding.

The important thing is that it got us past the dogs.
As we rode towards town, a pack of 5-6 dogs came running at us, barking wildly and foaming at the mouth.
I’m sure they would have been fine if we stopped, but they sure seemed scary as we rode by...

Speaking of scary,
That doesn’t look good.

Almost in McDermitt.
As noted, we ran out of gas again in, well, 8 minutes.
BigWan opened the valve for the 2 into 1 for just a second. That gave us enough gas to get into town.

Here we are. McDermitt, Nevada. Got fuel, then went to look for lunch.

This friendly guy was really into the 990.

He asked where we were going and asked if we had been to Willow Creek hot springs.
He said, “It’s really great, unless some jackass is running around with his weenie hanging out.
And there always seems to be some jackass with his weenie hanging out...
I just want to beat his ass!”

He scribbled a map on a piece of cardboard and told us to check it out.

I wish I had a photo of the map. It got lost somewhere along the way.
Imagine some pencil squiggles on a piece of cereal box...
Here, I found a drawing in my journal...
The real map was almost as bad - this is all the info we had.

Lunch.
I had “jojos,” which are some kind of potato wedge. Matt had a corndog.
We split some potato salad, bananas, and mountain dew.
