Broken frames, broken forestays... I see a common theme to your adventures.

Thanks for the update LittleWan. I was wondering what you guys did with your summer.
The sailing trip is far more adventurous than anything I could muster. You guys are so cool! I'm sure I'd be deathly sea sick within an hour. I did go sailing this summer for about two hours. We were on the Shtandart, a replica of a Russian Frigate from 1703. ..........![]() Now get that rat's nest back on the trail...

, but looking back now it's just all part of the adventure, right? Mother nature really puts things into perspective. Here was my view from 70ft above the water line, a lot less scary than 5ft. Wow, I can't get shit done lately.
Still on "island time" I guess. Plus, all I want to do is drink beer. Just kidding (we've been super busy). Heh, I thought you guys would "enjoy" that one... Edit: oh, if you copy that youtube link and then paste it in here, you can turn "Let's drink beer" into a mp3 and put it on your ipod! woo hoo! Okay, so this is just a quickie post to address a couple things... Quote:
Xymo, you're bowing to the wrong person - Running a halyard while rounding Cape Horn?!? ALL HAIL PYRATE! ![]() Well, if you look back at the pic from Radio Bay (hilo), we're the 2nd boat from the left. But, if you want another angle, here's a shot I took from the water... ![]() Wow, I WISH it was a Seawind! We met a guy in Mexico and went on his Seawind 1160 - that's an AMAZING boat. And, it should be, for $500, 000!! ![]() No, that's way out of our price range (even an old one) we're on a gemini 105mc. Barely a catamaran, more like a monomaran (34 ft long, 14 ft wide) She's a small, light, poundy thing (see above). Great for Mx, but kinda scary in the open ocean. Pardon the gratuitous Captain Ron (matt's favorite movie) Heh, I love that you guys still make those jokes! Even my mom and my aunt were emailing me that stuff in Hawaii ("make smashing into waves your favorite!") Everyone's a comedian... ![]() ![]() Quote:
![]() I'm just glad we didn't catch on fire (also a common theme)... Quote:
I've been reading so much Clive Cussler, I'm starting to appreciate those old ships now... Quote:
Yeah, I'll bet it's a lot less scary from up there, for sure. We saw a surprising number of ginormous container ships and tankers, out in the middle. At least 6 of them crossed our path, within 3 miles. Hello, we're thousands of miles from land, do you have to get so close?? Thank goodness for AIS (we have a receiver that shows nearby ships, their heading, their speed, and an approximate time of when they are going to run us over). This one was less than half a mile away...he's 1,000 ft long! ![]() we actually felt his wake when he passed. ![]() Hey, Do you guys remember Dan? We saw him on the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route, in Tollgate. ![]() So I got a nice PM from a new inmate who lives near Dan and occasionally sees him "...walking around town, looking for the 60s..." With the info from the inmate, I was able to track down a sample of Dan's flute music (it's pretty and relaxing) - you can enjoy it, here. Thanks, ghostwolf0! (uh oh, I just noticed your screen name...hope i didn't offend you with my comment about "it's amazing how many guys named Dan like wolves and flutes..." ) Haha. Okay you guys, it's been fun and I missed you, too... But, this is it - I'm really pushing the RR rules now... ![]() However, I can't leave without one last present for nevermind: Can't embed it, but take the tour, here. Enjoy! Ooh, I see a bunch of new TAT reports I need to check out... (it's so hard to catch up) See you around!

Sailing? Please don't let Bronco3738 read this. He's all about sailing. Sounds like a scary but exciting adventure. I am glad you two made it back to dry land safely.
We just returned from our second adventure in Utah (insert shameless plug of our RR here). I can't wait for another Wan adventure to indulge myself in.

"Honu" video
Little Wan,
I love the "Honu" video and have watched it a half-dozen times at least. The music sounds just like a Celine Dion favorite of ours. It sure fits perfectly to those scenes, I think. Anyway, it's really an awesome video for sure. Thanks for staying in touch with us until your next big adventure. I'll be waiting and waiting. ADV Sailing... Who knew?
Jeez you think you are exposed being on a motorcycle in the middle of nowhere, but I imagine it's nothing compared to being in the middle of a huge storm in the ocean . Thanks for the update... I was wondering what you two would be doing this summer. Epic trip!Jordan |

I need to get this back to the front where I can find it. Came in late & I'm only halfway through. Let me be the 427th--no, make that 534th person to tell you what a great writing style you have. No wonder so many have locked onto it.
I could have used your "Make _____ Your Favorite" many times this year. Got to remember that one..... Now, back to reading.

Whew! MADE IT! Blew through this report in about 24 hours. On to Death Valley!
Well, actually it is noon on Sunday and I have laundry to do, a shower and toilet to scrub, a floor to clean, and a dog who wants to go to the river. I have been shirking my responsibilities enough this weekend. Yay OCD!
