Two-up for Furniture
Yesterday marked our first two-up trip on the wee. We headed out mid-morning in the general direction of Furnitureland South. I agreed to go provided we could ride the back way there.
So we geared up, and hit the back roads. Starting in Durham on 9th Street, we headed out Hillsborough Road. Onto Old NC 10 and the beginning of two-lane for the next 60 miles. Left on New Hope Church road. That eventually turned into Arthur Minnis and eventually that turned into Bradshaw Quarry Road. For about two miles before it turns into Bradshaw Quarry, Arthur Minnis goes from really nice blacktop to gravel. Awesome! I love a good gravel road. It was our first two-up experience in gravel, and the wee is certainly a bit heavier than a real dirtbike. Luckily it hadn't been re-gravelled lately, so it was hard, flat and fast. Third gear, about 40MPH the bike smoothed out and we just danced right up it. Hit Saxapahaw on the way. For the Triangle NC riders, it's definitely worth a Sunday morning ride out there for lunch. The Saxapahaw general store is awesome. Had a really good short rib sandwich. They've also got a Maple View Farms ice cream shop in the really cute former mill town. From there, we headed down 87 to Old Greensboro Chapel Hill Road, which took us all the way to 85 about 10 miles short of the biggest furniture store you'll ever see. Super slab for 10 minutes (which Kristina didn't like so much...doesn't love the buffeting from the big trucks) and we're there. After enduring about 4 hours of good-old-fashioned-furniture-hunting, we geared back up and tooled all the way back home on Old Greensboro Chapel Hill via the Carrboro bottle shop. Rescued the dog and dinner on the grill. All in all, a great way to spend a Saturday. Well, more riding/less shopping would be good too.

Nice. Other than the having to go to furnitureland south part.
Every time I've ended up out there it's taken several hours there. :( |
