Halogen bulbs have a definite life, in terms of hrs. When did you last replace it? Also they are sensitive to voltage fluctuations. Rather than the rectifier, I'd suspect the regulator. If you are worried get a voltmeter on the bie so you can watch what it does.. |

The problem was with the 1150. It's only 8 years old and now on its 3rd light bulb.

Tinkering in the garage
No progress on the RS. Flywheel bolts & a few seals arrive this week, but the crack in the gearbox is an issue I've yet to find a solution to. Possibly I'll need a second hand cover & will need to reshim the gearbox. This being the case, too expensive to deal to now. I'm likely to button everything back together, & wait until there is less to do elsewhere.
MANDY'S GILERA RUNNER: Is due for a warrent. At the last inspection Richard said the corrossion was a concern. So I've painted the shock which smartens things up. The powdercoating let go fairly early on (the shocks only a couple of years old), and the spring was very rusty underneath the residual powdercoating. Next weekend I'll tackle the forks, which have also lost their powdercoating (bloody Italian powdercoaters ), & have also lost their dampening. The Frame could do with a going over, but given Mandy uses the bike all the time, its hard to take this off the road. I'll coating it with the Lanolin anti rust spray coating. The paint is holding up okay (considering Mandy never garages the bike) but has some surface rust. GUS: Got in new rear brake shoes & fitted those. EBC - not what I ordered, but... Also got in the caps that cover the inspection ports & the central hole. I've siliconed these in for extra hold. I note that the final drive seal (inside the hub) has developed a seep. I'll need to keep an eye on this. Fittted a new gearbox gear change seal. Helpful when the patient can lie on their side.... Just a question of taking off the gear change lever (gearbox & from the frame), then prizing out the seal & replacing. Easy as, though I'm concerned I've set the new seal too far in. Yes, I did wash Gus after the Sutherlands hutt ride - twice - but you'd never know it looking at some portions of the bike. Fitted a new front boot - another MT21. You can tell when the tyre needs replacement - when some knobs have worn down to the carcass. At worst the knob height = 0 mm. New knobs 10mm. Bike mileage 205,595 kms. Waiting on a delivery from Boxer Supplies for a Unifilter (foam air filter), a new oil filter, a few new spokes for the rear wheel (need to replace the bent one, and the one next to it), & one of those gearbox sight glasses (which i didn't really need). Don't think I'll get to the MMMM this year unfortunately. Just replaced the outside garage internal spouting, which required a rebuild of 1/2 of the roof, and will install Mandy's new stove sometime in the next few weeks... But I have booked for the Kiwi.

Are you happy with the price you got for the klr? Steve Bear in mind that while I am definitely planning on being there (taking Friday and Monday off) there are a vast number of things that may stop me coming. I don't have a very good attendance rate lately :(

Travel up on Friday (haven't been to Takapri Rd for a while?) and stay in Taupo or thereabouts. (the state of my insides means I'll need a toilet close by for long term occupation...) Follow the mob around Waikaremoana but maybe stay in Gisbourne and meet the others at Matawai for the ride up Motu on Sunday then around he coast back to Gisbourne and back home via the Gentle Annie on Monday. all weather and bowel dependent. Also got sick family members at the moment and work is ballistic - hence my lack of total commitment cant complain though - a shiny new toy turned up today....
