Well Tuna and Laconic...you two get Es for Effort but everybody else Fails!

as if anybody else is even watching....

OK here's the skinny....

Briefly it's an old WWII air base built to protect the locks on the Great Lakes whose mission continued through the Cold War even including being a missile site!
(I think there's been some UFOs there too)

It's now used as a winter test facility by automotive manufacturers.

The runways make an equilateral triangle that are each 1 mile in length.. IIRC

Did you guess it's name and location yet?

It's pretty cool that anybody can just ride out there onto the place!

The concrete is in great shape considering it's located in the North Woods and was poured some 60 years ago!!

Here's some links

Raco Field is HERE and all kinds of info about it's history can be found HERE and it's current use is talked about more HERE

On another subject.....

You see lots of dirtbikes and ATVs on the road in the U.P. as there are trails all over the place and it's legal to use many roads as connectors. Those trails become a mecca for snowmobiles in the wintertime.

1st view of Lake Superior on the horizon.....

How about the color of that water?

Loggers used to slide the big logs down these dunes then float them to the mill in Grand Marais.
