I set up a spotwalla LINK so you can follow along in real time, if you like.

KnyBanjo,

I have wanted for some time to meet you in person. Today I had my chance (it was like seeing a Unicorn!!!) and didn't have the heart to stop you. I was the green KLR that pointed and waved at you coming out of the gas station in Taylorsville. I was in front of you coming up 16, reason I was running the speed limit is because that 10 mile stretch is a PRIME place to get a ticket. Was trying to be a blessing even if it seemed I was holding you two up.

Maybe next time I can catch you sitting still and we can talk some. Have a great trip brother.

I can at least say I have ridden with a legend for about 15 miles or so even though you didn't know who I was. That will be my story and I am stickin to it!!!

Have a good ride, wish that I was joining you this weekend.

If you decide to pick any flowers, remember to stop and get off the bike first.

It looks like Jneiman and I will be in your neck of the woods this weekend. We are spending a couple of nights in Maggie Valley. I love me some western North Carolina.

We were trying to get across the mountain before it rained....almost made it, had to wear rain gear through the Jefferson area.

Reddog* and I hit the road about a quarter to eight Thu morning, it wasn't raining but it looked like showers would threaten the entire route to Seneca Rocks.

Thought about stopping in to say hi to Julie at her Coffee Shop in W. Jefferson but he hit a shower just a couple of miles out of town. I can actually get cell service there and a quick check of the radar, while hiding under an awning to put on rain gear showed that we were on the leading edge and it was still dry in Virgina. So we decided to make a run for it.

Stopping just inside VA to strip off the raingear.

One of my favorite 'shortcuts'

It was sprinkling a little bit by the time we got to Marion, VA but there wasn't anything of consequence showing on radar so up 16 we went!

By the time we arrived in Tazewell we were back in rain gear, checked my phone for the last time of the entire weekend and seen that a green blob had indeed brewed up right over us.

No problemo. We wouldn't see any more steady rains but it was misty and foggy through BG. Lunch stop!

It's hard to tell that you're in a crater when you can't even see a mountain.

Tourist!

Out via the gravel over the AT and down to 42....no dust today!

We caught up with a Strom and a Hog that reminded me of riding up to BYOB with Laconic a few years ago.

Didn't see them again in Seneca Rocks though so they must have had a different agenda?

At least the sky is looking pretty now.

A look back to check on the big Aprilia.

No time to stop!

Up on the border of WVA now.....it's not a straight line so our route crossed back and forth between the two Virginias several times...

Dropped in off of county roads into the Hot Springs/Warm Springs area and got a little jammed up in touristy traffic, need to research a by-pass for that.

The weather was getting iffy again as we approached evening and were also losing daylight.

What does one do in that situation?

Short cut!

But all's well that ends well and in this case we made it to camp before dark and between showers.

Friday morning we would awake to a mix of sun and showers but overall another great day ahead of us!

The morning view looking East at Seneca Rock from the campground.

I think it's name was Princess Snowbird Indian Village? or something like that...you can rent an aluminum teepee too if you'd like.

(all three of those pics were taken from the same spot, just looking different directions)

Spruce Knob, as high as it gets in West Virginia.

Now is as good of a time as any to do a little chain maint.

From the observation deck, where it was cool and very breezy, distant showers could be seen even though we stood in full sunshine.
