I can't remember for sure but I think this spur is what used to go through to Dills Falls.

If it is I don't know how far of a hike it would be to get there from the new 'end of the road'...is it down this trail?...

...or still past all those tank traps? I don't recall....

Doubling back on Charlies Creek Rd.....

The road across Wolf Mtn to Horseshoe Rock is still fun.

Logger Rd was still open as the map indicated but the 'little bald' meadow just past where Brooms Rd meets it is all overgrown with briars.

I suppose the large amounts of rain this summer have kept both traffic out and made the plants grow like crazy.

5 miles past the 'little bald' the road ends before it used to connect into the Ruff Butt loop.

The top of Sugar Creek Rd is gated and looks to be completely overgrown.

Broom Rd was open though (I believe it's county maintained actually)

It's in perfect condition for a bike like the old DR.

Thanks Jack! It was a good day of riding but in hindsight I'm wishing that I would have based out of East Laporte instead of Balsam Lake because I ran out of time to check out some stuff over there.....

I did get over there though...headed up Moses Creek and up to what we used to call the 'big bald' meadow.

The main road is well maintained gravel....

The climb up to the old bald graded out and graveled shortly before all the closures, it's now growing up into a two track.

The road was gated just short of the bald and this turn-around is new since the last time I was up there....

I parked just short of the gate and began my hike up to the bald.....

It won't be long until one needs a machete to get through the old road.

Looking up to the bald....that's not really bald anymore. That's not grass, it's shoulder high briars and you can't even see the two track that once went up the middle of it.

The road that continued on around past the bald meadow is still visible/usable but just barely.

The briars kept me from getting to the top but I managed to wiggle between a few sparse spots to get a bit of a view from the side....

Briars and thorns?
